Udacity Names Google Veteran Kenny Kim as the New Chief Marketing Officer

CMO Kenny Kim Joins from Google; Brings nearly two decades of marketing experience to Udacity

A leading Learning Management System (LMS) platform Udacity has appointed a new Chief Marketing Officer to lead the next phase of marketing growth for the company. Udacity announced that it has appointed Kenny Kim as its new Chief Marketing Officer effective today. Keny Kim joins the edutech startup company from Google. At Google, Kenny served as the Global Head of Growth Marketing for Google Shopping.

At the time of the new CMO’s appointment, Gabe Dalporto, CEO of Udacity said,

“With Udacity’s business accelerating globally and expanding rapidly into the enterprise and government markets, we look forward to Kenny helping us become the market leader in upskilling the world’s workers in the careers of the future.”

Gabe continued, “Kenny is a strategic leader with a diverse marketing background. His experience helping build disruptive, category-defining companies into lasting brands come at a perfect time for us.”

Hiring during Pandemic is a Gutsy Move

When a majority of businesses have either stalled their hiring processes or sending employees on furlough, it’s commendable of the LMS company to hire a CMO to regroup its marketing and sales teams globally.

Udacity, a competitor to established LMS platforms like Coursera and Udemy, has been offering a battery of new courses to learners and tutors across the globe. During the pandemic, the LMS leader added new courses and Nanodegree programs to its existing libraries in subjects related to AI Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Digital Marketing, Autonomous Vehicle information, Business Management and so on.

Recently, Udacity launched the AI for Healthcare Nanodegree program, in conjunction with experts from Microsoft Research, Genentech, and more.

Kim also held leadership roles at other high-growth startups, such as Trulia and Hotwire, as well as more established brands like American Express and Ticketmaster.
