HGC Global Communications Signs MoU With CyberSecurity Malaysia to Strengthen National Telecoms Cybersecurity

A fully-flexed fixed-line operator and ICT service provider, HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CyberSecurity Malaysia, the national cybersecurity specialist and technical agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM).

The MoU will facilitate a platform under which HGC will work towards the advancement of crucial cybersecurity skillsets to the telecom industry. On the opposite side, the MoU will foster innovation in cybersecurity by enabling Cybersecurity Malaysia to overcome national cybersecurity challenges and offer ICT benefits to internet users.

Under the Memorandum, HGC is tasked with provisioning its cybersecurity expertise including consulting, managed security services, engineering, risk management, cloud security, and advisory services. In turn, CyberSecurity Malaysia will boost its range of security innovation-led services, programs, and initiatives to reduce compromising points of digital systems.

At first, the MoU will benefit large to medium enterprises such as the Financial Services Industry, and Government and Semi-government bodies. The benefits of the agreement will go beyond Malaysia’s borders to HGC’s customers overseas, particularly the Asian community. It will also benefit a broad range of industry verticals such as e-health, e-commerce, and e-education initiatives.

The MOU will cover cybersecurity coordination in key fields, including telecommunications security, IoT security, and threats intelligence. The sharing of information on telecom networks, ICT solutions, and cybersecurity can further enhance cyber-attack readiness and protection initiatives.

The hotel chain Marriott had a security breach in March that resulted in the leak of data of over 5.2 million hotel guests. 

In April, around 500,000 stolen Zoom account credentials, usernames, and passwords were up for sale on the dark web.

Magellan Health, one of the Fortune 500 companies had a ransomware attack in April, resulting in affecting 365,000 patients.
