The company behind this software, Merico, is a leading innovator in code contribution analytics based in San Francisco, California with a global team led by veteran software researchers.
Merico Build
Merico Build is free for any developer anywhere to analyze their repos to realize more value in their coding lives certifying their skills, expertise, and competencies to let their code speak for itself. Merico Build was developed to empower developers with insights and badges that enable self-improvement, career progress, and job applications.
Merico CEO Jinglei Ren explains the need for this product: “Developers write code for more than just work, however it’s a challenge to articulate and celebrate that contribution which often goes unrecognized or hidden. How do you translate those contributions into growth, career outcomes, or skill development? We’ve created a product to solve exactly these questions.”
Furthermore “It’s more important than ever for developers and hiring companies to have a clear sense of strengths, capabilities, expertise and experience in a manner that is data driven,” says CEO Jinglei Ren. “Merico Build solves this problem by providing the most advanced contribution analytics in the market.”
Features:
- Enables developers to automatically extract insights from their repositories
- Empowers developers to improve coding practices with data
- Translate contribution into shareable metrics articulating value and strengths
- Certify skills and expertise based on code contribution and Git history
- Benchmark accomplishments and competencies with peers and heroes
Jinglei is a former researcher at Microsoft Research who holds a Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He was a visiting scholar at Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University. Cofounder Hezheng Yin was leading the original research that catalyzed Merico while studying for his Ph.D. in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. Cofounder Roland Vogl brings a wealth of experience as an executive and academic with expertise in informatics.

Investor Backing
In August 2020, Merico raised a $4.1 million seed round led by GGV Capital, with participation from Legend Star and previous investor Polychain Capital. The venture was originally funded by OSS Capital and Open Core Summit founder Joseph Jacks.
“Merico build provides a complete picture of the development process to individuals and global companies,” says Jinglei. “These insights help teams around the world to better understand a developer’s performance, productivity, quality and strengths.”
According to the Merico team, many assessments rely on superficial measures that treat all code as being created equal. Merico’s analytics tool accounts for these complexities and nuances by extracting real insights directly from the code, accounting for impact, density, complexity, bugs, and other essential facets.
“We are so proud to offer a coherent and data-driven solution for the creators of software to be directly recognized and rewarded for the value of their intellectual contributions to software projects, including OSS and proprietary projects.” says Mr. Vogl, Merico cofounder.
