Shannon Health Deploys PeraHealth’s Latest Clinical Decision Support Platform and Launches “RI Triage” for Emergency Department Use

As a part of Shannon Health’s mission to continuously improve clinician support and provide exceptional care, the health system upgraded to the latest version of PeraHealth’s patient surveillance platform. A PeraHealth partner since 2012, Shannon Health went live with the Google Cloud-based version of the Rothman Index solution, which included full integration with their Epic EMR system.

PeraHealth’s FDA-cleared patient surveillance platform uses the Rothman Index algorithm to synthesize large amounts of real-time EMR data to provide actionable insights that enhance the delivery of care. The platform not only supports early warning, but also helps with patient placement, transfer decisions and discharge readiness.

Shannon is among the first innovative institutions to implement “RI Triage”, a streamlined approach to Emergency Department (ED) use, developed with support from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to support hospitals with ED care including during COVID-19 surges. This application leverages findings published earlier this year in the journal, Critical Care Explorations, by researchers from Yale New Haven Hospital System, University of California Hospital at Irvine, LifeBridge Health, and PeraHealth, to rapidly assess patient risk, aiding in the hospital admission triage process and clinical management.

Becky Fuentes, Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Shannon Health shares, “PeraHealth’s Rothman Index empowers our clinicians with real-time information that supports informed, timely clinical decision making. It is an invaluable part of our clinical tool kit that supports efficiency, workflow, and ultimately patient outcomes. Along with our recent software upgrade, we are also excited to pioneer the use of RI Triage and its application within the Emergency Department.”

Bill Dorner, VP of Product at PeraHealth, said, “We are thrilled to have our longtime hospital partner, Shannon Health, live on the latest version of PeraHealth software and very excited to work with Shannon on use of RI Triage in the emergency department. It was a pleasure to be onsite with the ED team over the past few days to witness their expertise and commitment to innovation in an effort to better support clinical decision making in an often challenging environment.”
