The event will feature more than 500 runners from around the world
Iron Sail, a collective effort aimed at contributing to the development of the blockchain gaming space, announces the launch of the world’s first marathon in the metaverse. The inaugural Metaverse Marathon will be hosted by Raramuri – Iron Sail’s flagship project dedicated to hosting competitive sporting events. The race is scheduled for June in conjunction with the annual Global Running Day featuring more than 500 runners and thousands of spectators from around the globe.

In line with Iron Sail’s goal of advancing towards an open metaverse which connects both online and offline experiences, this landmark Metaverse Marathon will see runners sweat it out in a physical course of their choosing, while connecting their experiences with fellow athletes, marathon enthusiasts and supporters in Raramuri’s virtual 3-D course
The mission of this first-of-its-kind Metaverse Marathon is to build virtual communities that transcend geographical, cultural, and social barriers. Despite the ongoing pandemic and travel restrictions, runners globally can “get together” in the virtual world.
Tri Pham, Founder of Iron Sail said, “We’ve witnessed great advancements in the metaverse in the past year and are proud to continue building on this momentum with the launch of an industry-first event. By bridging the offline and online worlds, the Metaverse Marathon truly exemplifies the unifying power of blockchain technology, and how it facilitates immersive experiences for runners and supporters alike. In the lead up to the event in June, we’re also excited to be rolling out additional perks and campaigns, all of which will be announced in due course.”

Powered by blockchain technology from KardiaChain, Raramuri allows runners to earn both physical and virtual rewards. The runners’ experience will be enhanced with live-pace tracking and haptic feedback modeled after the actual race experience, blurring the lines between a physical and virtual race. Meanwhile, fans and supporters will be able to view the virtual race live, earn rewards, and interact with their favorite runners via emotes, or token donations.
KardiaChain’s blockchain infrastructure will also allow both runners and spectators to create personalized avatars through wearable nonfungible tokens (NFTs) in the 3-D metaverse course. Through the avatars, participants can express themselves freely, donning the latest virtual fashion apparels, or even assuming a new identity. Beyond their choice of in-race avatars, runners can also turn their race record into an NFT and incorporate it into their digital identity in the metaverse.
