Nokia, with its collaboration partners, is displaying its Box 2.0 — an ecosystem to assemble a ready-for-production factory within just a couple of hours — at the 5G arena at Hannover Messe 2019 in Hannover, Germany.
Box 2.0 is a container where Nokia is demonstrating how Industry 4.0 solutions can be brought to life in a matter of hours along with OTA connectivity.
Currently, factories cannot operate as standalone entities but need a dynamic input (of raw materials)-output (of finished goods) mechanism to function. Here is where global IoT comes in handy — to ensure data collection from the entire supply chain is made available and published. This, Nokia says, is the backbone of their Box 2.0 factory concept.

Also, Nokia WING is ensuring that, globally, mobile network operators are able to provide a better IoT experience to their customers. The point is the collection of data from a global supply chain — irrespective of where the devices are installed.
Grant Marshall, VP Supply Network and Engineering at Nokia, said, “We could tell from the positive feedback we received on the Factory in a Box last year that there is a lot of potential for this concept in the manufacturing industry. This year, we have raised the bar again, and Factory in a Box 2.0 is now connected to the Nokia WING and has Nokia DAC on board, making it even more flexible, secure and efficient.”

Nokia’s digital automation cloud fits every industrial environment and its 4G connectivity is optimized for time-sensitive applications and low-latency IoT. The combined platform will help enterprises in the following:
- High-accuracy object positioning
- Real-time video processing
- Utilizing features such as local network slicing
- Help in building Automated Guided Vehicles, analytics, and robotics
The new capabilities added to the 2.0 Factory in a box are Augmented Reality, 3D printing technology, and a modular production line concept.
