Juniper Networks Completes the Acquisition of AI-Powered Networking Start-Up Mist
Juniper Networks has completed the acquisition of AI-powered networking start-up Mist for $405 million. With this, Juniper will accelerate the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in its end-to-end acquisition in order to achieve higher enterprise sales.
Announcing the completion of the acquisition in a blog post, Manoj Leelanivas, Chief Product Officer at Juniper Networks, said, “With Juniper and Mist together, we will blaze the path to AI for IT in this era of digital transformation. With Mist, Juniper is one of a limited number of companies that can serve enterprises end to end. While Mist started by bringing AI-driven operations to WLAN, Juniper and Mist together will leverage this AI-driven approach across the IT stack.”

“There will be no changes to how we manage partners in the short term. The Mist team will remain a separate operating unit within Juniper and we will continue to leverage Mist’s strong and growing brand. Mist has a highly differentiated wireless solution that will strengthen and complement Juniper’s existing software-defined enterprise portfolio,” he added.
Based out of Cupertino, California, the company has developed the world’s first AI-driven wireless platform that transforms Wi-Fi as a more predictable, reliable and measurable functionality. A company built by Cisco veterans, Mist has also managed to develop an AI virtual assistant, Marvis, for users to have immediate access to troubleshooting and to provide insights on network quality and consumer sentiment to stakeholders.

Mist commits to sustaining its open framework even when it is now owned by Juniper Networks so that customers can leverage and integrate products and services from other vendors that work in sync with Mists’ capabilities. Juniper will benefit from Mists’ offerings in the Cloud-hosted wireless networking market.
Sujal Hajela and Bob Friday, CEO and CTO, respectively found Mist. The company has a workforce of 150 full-time employees and it has raised a total of $88.4 million since its inception in 2014.
