SAP Invests $11 Million in Internal Collaboration Startup Ruum
SAP will be investing an extra $11 million in Rumm so that its solution grows in business, quickly.
Rumm is a simple software-as-a-service solution that binds team productivity with enterprise business processes. This assists a billion users of SAP software to connect enterprise data with an easy to adapt to, intuitive and collaborative product suite. Along with integrating with the core SAP product portfolio, Rumm also seamlessly teams up with other popular collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or Box. Ruum has applied Artificial Intelligence to its Project Manager by equipping the software by taking over daily, manual tasks such as team/individual updates or follow-ups.
While most B2B SaaS companies start off with SMBs as their clients, Rumm has achieved a milestone by having an enterprise level client, fairly quickly. SAP’s investment allows Rumm to explore the global SMB market while helping it continue to dedicate its resources to the former’s enterprise offerings.
The solution was originally built by a team of SAP employees.
Ruum’s business achievements to date–
- Acquisition of 30,000 users from 2,000 companies
- 200 non-profits that can use the software free of charge
- Six blue-chip enterprises including Beiersdorf AG — The company, based out of Germany is a personal-care goods behemoth with at least eight global brands being a part of its business
- Organic growth with nearly zero marketing spending

Martin Böhm, Chief Digital Officer, Beiersdorf, said: “Ruum has changed the way my teams collaborate and get work done. They spend far more time adding value to the business and far less time on repetitive admin. It has increased team productivity by at least 30 percent, and this has a direct impact on our bottom line.”
“Ruum provides a lightweight collaboration layer across the SAP portfolio and allows users to put operational data into action,” said Max Wessel, Chief Innovation Officer, SAP. “This has the potential to streamline messy workflows across the enterprise. It’s a great idea coming from a group of employees who’ve lived through the pain.”
Ruum has been initiated by SAP.iO Venture Studio, which is SAP’s internal incubation program.
