ZTE’s 5G Deployment to Happen out of Intel’s eASIC Devices

ZTE announced that it has selected Intel’s eASIC Devices for its wireless 5G products. ZTE chose Intel’s eASIC devices for their cost-effectiveness and power consumption calibration for massive 5G deployments. As 5G deployments are on the verge of a rollout, telcos need flexible deployment solutions for the same, the backbone for which are field programmable gate arrays or FPGAs — the technology providing both, prototyping and initial production requirements.

High-volume production for 5G is directly proportional to the technology transition from FPGAs to Application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) helping telcos to meet business goals pertaining to cost and power consumption. Intel ensures a smooth transition due to its acquisition of eASIC.

ZTE began testing 5G on FPGAs, immediately realizing the need for a better deployment solution, hence choosing Intel as its partner to transit smoothly from FPGAs to ASICs.

Dan McNamara, Intel senior vice president, and general manager of the Programmable Solutions Group said, “Intel’s alliance with ZTE marks a major milestone in Intel eASIC devices’ 5G penetration. 5G speeds will enable new classes of applications, resulting in an exponential increase in data volume. A structured ASIC is a by-product of a standard ASIC and an FPGA that ensures lower per-unit cost and massive power savings that any telco will look out for in situations wherein deployments as large as 5G are taking place.
