A Game-Changer for Physical Security: New Betacom AI-Powered Perimeter Surveillance System Over Private Wireless Network
A joint solution from Betacom, Axis Communications, and Evolon makes perimeter security always active and very affordable.
A new AI-powered perimeter surveillance solution, Betacom PSS, has been unveiled by private wireless pioneer Betacom and its partners Axis Communications and Evolon Technology. Betacom PSS provides 24/7/365 physical threat detection for airports, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities in a great deal less time and at a great deal less cost than legacy wired and public wireless solutions. Axis cameras with Evolon AI-based image detection are used by Betacom PSS and are all connected to the company’s managed private 4G/5G network.

Private wireless pioneer Betacom and its partners Axis Communications and Evolon Technology today announced a new AI-powered perimeter surveillance solution, Betacom PSS.
In locations where installing and maintaining conventional solutions would be prohibitively expensive, Betacom PSS expands a customer’s surveillance systems. Using a private wireless network, implementation costs can be as much as 70% lower than those for wired alternatives, where the cost of installing fibre and power can be $2 to $3 million per mile. Additionally, the technology provides limitless data usage for video transmission at no extra charge, potentially saving millions of dollars in data charges. The solution’s AI-driven capabilities discern between different threat categories so that on-site security staff are only dispatched when serious risks are discovered, which results in additional operational savings. Systems for central control and monitoring that already exist can be combined with the Betacom PSS solution.
The end-to-end solution from Betacom may be installed swiftly and discretely. The majority of the permitting process, as well as all of the labour, equipment, trenching, and conduit laying associated with subterranean cable deployment, are eliminated with wireless deployments. Also, this lessens the environmental impact, which might assist clients in achieving their sustainability objectives.
The PSS solution, which Betacom delivers and manages, was developed in collaboration with sector leaders Axis and Evolon. In order to maximise the accuracy of threat detection, Axis fixed thermal and PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras are deployed simultaneously to give high performance optical image contrast. By lowering bandwidth, latency, and infrastructure costs, the Axis open platform, which allows in-camera applications like Evolon to exist on the edge, contributes to the provision of an ideal system. There is no longer a requirement for on-grid power thanks to the possibility to power Axis cameras with solar power or uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
“Axis is a partner-oriented, open-platform technology provider,” said Anthony Incorvati, Transportation Practice Leader, Americas Region. “Bringing market leading providers together is what we are all about. We are excited to grow the relationship with Betacom and to leverage the long-standing relationship with application partners like Evolon.”

The Axis cameras’ Evolon AI integration allows Betacom PSS to offer object categorization, which is much more potent than motion or object detection. Object categorization significantly lowers false alarms by using AI and Deep Learning to identify a person or vehicle as a threat based on specified criteria and threshold levels. Evolon reduces false alarms by up to 98% through improved detection, analytics, and AI learning.
“Betacom is well positioned to take advantage of our edge and cloud-based computer vision and AI solutions to deliver a complete, best-in-class perimeter security solution,” said Tom Galvin, President and CEO of Evolon.
“Betacom PSS is a natural extension of our high performance 5GaaS offering, leveraging our fast-growing partner ecosystem, to the benefit of our ever-expanding airport, manufacturing and warehousing/logistics customer base,” said Johan Bjorklund, CEO of Betacom. “The critical applications powered by private wireless networks are growing daily, as the benefits of their use as an alternative to both wired and legacy wireless networks become steadily clearer and more compelling.”
