University of San Francisco Moves to the Cloud with Ellucian

Jesuit University Selects Proven, Cloud-Based Solution to Drive Innovation and Keep Pace with an Increasingly Complex Security Landscape

Ellucian, the leading provider of software and services built to power higher education, announced that the University of San Francisco (USF), a premier Jesuit university, has elected to move Ellucian Banner to the cloud. Banner cloud will allow the institution to focus on innovation and digital transformation while taking advantage of increased security and disaster recovery.

“The three critical factors that drove USF to move to cloud––easier maintenance, data security and business continuity––will be increasingly important to institutions in the coming years. Cloud technology is poised to address these priorities while creating IT efficiencies that allow for greater focus on strategic initiatives and driving innovation”

To better support its large population of national and international students, USF began the process of overhauling all its software systems, including its student information systems to address the ever-increasing demand for an improved and secure digital experience.

“We were working on a tight timeline to upgrade our on-premise server farm and encrypt our student data; Ellucian quickly helped us determine that moving Banner to the cloud would not only help us to address our data defense needs but would also be easier to maintain and increase our disaster recovery and business continuity posture,” said University of San Francisco Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer Opinder Bawa. “Ellucian’s focus on higher education and record of successful Banner cloud implementations weighed heavily into our decision. We look forward to working with Ellucian to help keep student data secure and accessible.”

University of San Francisco will be supported by an agile and high-performing cloud platform, managed and maintained by Ellucian, allowing for easy access to the most current application features. The managed cloud delivery model enhances scalability and data security, while reducing the need for supplementary spending on back-end infrastructure for disaster recovery. By relying on Ellucian for these services, the USF staff will be empowered to shift their focus to more valuable business process improvements and student-centered activities on campus.

“The three critical factors that drove USF to move to cloud easier maintenance, data security and business continuity will be increasingly important to institutions in the coming years. Cloud technology is poised to address these priorities while creating IT efficiencies that allow for greater focus on strategic initiatives and driving innovation,” said Ellucian President and CEO Laura Ipsen. “I look forward to a strong partnership with USF as we set their cloud transformation in motion and help to create a great experience for both students and staff.”
