NVIDIA Introduces NeMo Guardrails to Enable Safety & Security for LLMs

Artificial intelligence is advancing one day at a time. And what we are witnessing now is a perfect blend of new technology and constant evolution. Speaking of evolution, one area of AI that is surprising us every day with its limitless possibilities is Generative AI.

While we passionately admire the gamut of Generative AI tools different brands are building, we are often concerned about creating effective guardrails for the applications.

NVIDIA just cracked the code for this one. Recently, the company introduced open-source software called NeMo Guardrail that assists developers to ensure that AI applications using Large Language Models (LLMs) are secure, accurate, and suitable.

NVIDIA introduced the tool as most industries are adopting LLMs like ChatGPT and they are assisting in a variety of tasks. They create software, expediting medicine design, resolving consumer inquiries, and simplifying lengthy paperwork.

What will NeMo Guardrails do?

  • Enterprises can use NeMO guardrails to ensure that apps created using complex language models comply with safety and security standards.
  • Developers can direct generative AI systems to produce amazing text answers that follow predetermined paths.
  • These rails will ensure that large language models (LLMs) are relevant, accurate, and secure.

Safety is Paramount for Robust Models

Safety is cited as a common concern in the generative AI community. All LLMs, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, can be used with NeMo Guardrails thanks to NVIDIA’s architecture.

The program enables app creators to align LLM-powered applications so that they are secure and adhere to a company’s areas of specialization.

3 Kinds of Boundaries with NeMo Guardrails

Topical guardrails: These stop apps from deviating into undesirable directions. For instance, they prevent customer care representatives from responding to weather-related inquiries.

Safety guardrails: These make sure that the tools and apps provide accurate as well as appropriate information. They can weed out offensive language and insist that only reliable sources are cited.

Security guardrails: These ensure that apps connect only to external third-party applications that are safe.

Who can use NeMo Guardrails?

Any software developer can use it virtually. One needn’t be a machine learning expert or a data scientist. With only a handful of lines of code, they may quickly build new rules.

Which tools can work with NeMo Guardrails?

NeMo Guardrails can be used with all the technologies that enterprise app developers employ because it is open source.

  • For instance, it can operate on top of LangChain, an open-source framework that programmers are quickly adopting to connect other applications to LLMs’ functionality.
  • Additionally, NeMo Guardrails is made to integrate with a variety of LLM-capable programs, like Zapier. Over 2 million organizations use Zapier, the platform for automation. It has seen personally how users are incorporating AI into their work.

Available as Open Source

The NVIDIA NeMo framework, which has all the tools users require to train and fine-tune language models utilizing a company’s confidential data, now incorporates NeMo Guardrails. A large portion of the NeMo framework is currently accessible on GitHub as open-source code.

Additionally, it is available to businesses as a complete, supported package that is a component of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform.

It is a member of the NVIDIA AI Foundations family of cloud services, which is geared toward companies that wish to build and use unique generative AI models based on their own data and subject-matter expertise.

The top cell provider in South Korea created an intelligent assistant using NeMo, and it has had 8 million talks with its users.

A Swedish research team used NeMo to develop LLMs that are capable of automating textual functions for the nation’s hospitals, government, and corporate offices.

Final Thoughts

Building guardrails remain a challenging problem that will require a lot of continuous research as AI develops and advances. NeMo Guardrails, the result of many years of study, is now open source thanks to NVIDIA’s desire to support the developer community’s immense effort and work on AI safety. The purpose is to make businesses’ smart services compliant with security, privacy, and safety standards and maintain the momentum of innovation.
