Wispr Raises $12Million and Launches Wispr Flow to Replace Keyboards With Voice

Voice dictation that works in every app on your Mac with auto-edits and AI commands

Wispr, the company building a more natural way to interact with technology, today announced a new $12 million investment that will help fuel the launch of Wispr Flow, a voice-first productivity tool. Built for Apple Macs, Wispr Flow allows users to speak naturally and see their words come to life—clear, concise, and up to 3x faster than typing. The investment was led by Matt Kraning, CTO, Cortex at Palo Alto Networks with participation from existing investors NEA and 8VC, along with Tim Junio (CEO, Expanse), and Alumni Ventures. Wispr’s total funding to date is $26 million.

“They went from using Flow for just emails and messages to using it everywhere on their computer, from talking to ChatGPT to writing reminders.”

“Wispr Flow is designed to transform the way people communicate and write,” said Tanay Kothari, CEO and Founder at Wispr. “With advanced features like auto-edits, command mode, and support for over 100 languages, Wispr Flow empowers users to be more productive and creative with their voice and time.”

The product was created by Kothari and co-founder, Sahaj Garg, after a growing frustration of having a volume of ideas and messages that could be shared aloud while speaking faster than they were able to structure into a text, email or written brief. Whether it be busy professionals, individual content creators or developers, the opportunity to turbocharge productivity with voice is significant. The funding will be used to launch Wispr Flow across additional platforms and bring to millions of users worldwide.

Kothari shared, “Our goal is simple: to empower effortless communication, reducing the hours spent hunched over a screen. We’re setting people free from the constraints of a keyboard, and allowing them to focus on their top priorities.”

Key Features of Wispr Flow:

  • Blazing Fast Dictation: Speak naturally and see your words appear instantly in your preferred style, across every application, powered by Flow’s ultra-fast inference engine.
  • Auto-edits when you change your mind: “Hey let’s meet at 5pm, actually let’s do 6pm” automatically becomes, “Hey, let’s meet at 6pm.”
  • Smart Formatting: Automatically structure your text for clarity and readability.
  • Command Mode for selected text: Say commands like “Flow, make this crisper and more assertive” without copy-pasting into other tools.
  • Native integrations: Select text anywhere and just say: “Ask perplexity, what does this mean?”
  • Whispering mode: Use Flow around others by quietly whispering to your computer.
  • Multi-Language Support: Communicate effectively in over 100 languages.

Rahul Vohra, CEO of Superhuman called Wispr Flow, “The best AI product I’ve used since ChatGPT.”

“The top tier of users today tell us they ‘write’ more with Flow than with their keyboards and that we’ve helped them feel less overwhelmed,” added Kothari. “They went from using Flow for just emails and messages to using it everywhere on their computer, from talking to ChatGPT to writing reminders.”

“Tanay and Sahaj are incredible engineers with proven track records, who possess the talent to build anything they envision,” said Andrew Schoen, Partner at NEA. “We’re optimistic about the traction Wispr Flow is already seeing, pre-launch—among business professionals, developers, engineers, and individuals within communities such as those affected by ADHD, carpal tunnel syndrome, amputations and Parkinson’s disease—towards enabling seamless communication and expression of ideas.”

On Sept 30, 2024, Wispr Flow will be available for Mac users with Apple Silicon, which represents most Macs in use today and nearly all purchased since 2022. The “Basic Plan” is free to use and Pro and Business plans start from $12/mo.
