Manufacturing with Robots
With minimally manned facilities managed by artificial intelligence (AI) and robots handling the bulk of the manufacturing, Hyundai can now deliver vehicles just six hours after an order is placed. Debuting in Singapore, where the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is presently being manufactured, is the Korean automaker’s brand-new Innovation Centre.
Together with a human counterpart in a digital command center, the AI brain will be in charge of day-to-day operations and long-term planning. We want to combine surveillance with prevention. Patel has stated that by the year 2027, this entity will be fully autonomous with human involvement limited to confirmation.

The factory can create many models at once
The vast Ulsan facility in Korea, where 34,000 people make 5,600 automobiles every day, is hardly the type of factory where such a tech-heavy setup would be implemented.
The Ioniq Lounge is where buyers begin the process of designing and ordering their own Hyundai. They are then escorted to a VR room where they are shown a computer-generated rendition of the car’s assembly process before a screen rises to expose the real manufacturing floor and the finished product. They then watch a test drive of the vehicle on the rooftop test track of the facility and dine on meals prepared with ingredients produced in Hyundai’s robotically managed Smart Farm. Autonomous robots then bring the finished vehicle to the lobby.

Many different models may be manufactured simultaneously on the same line at the facility thanks to the adaptable manufacturing technology used there. Together with an army of artificially intelligent robots, this allows the Singapore plant to work with just 29 personnel while manufacturing 70 vehicles a day during one eight-hour shift.
