IOWN GF Releases First Use Case Documents From Working Groups
Cyber-Physical System and Artificial Intelligence-Integrated Communications Use Cases Identify Future Application Requirements Needed To Build A Smarter World
The Innovative Optical and Wireless Network Global Forum (IOWN GF) announced subsequent publication of the organization’s first two use case documents covering the next-generation communications infrastructure being defined by IOWN GF to help create a smarter more connected world.
“Looking Toward the Future – IOWN GF’s Vision”
The purpose of the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) Use Case and the Artificial Intelligence-Integrated Communications (AIC) Use Case is to identify application-specific service requirements which would leverage the contemplated next generation optical network and needed by users in different vertical industries. The service requirements detailed in the use cases will be used to develop technical requirements for future IOWN GF working groups discussion.

The use case documents, which describe key feature sets and requirements, are interim reports and will be finalized by the end of 2021.
“I’m excited to announce the release of IOWN GF’s first deliverables from its working groups. A true collaborative effort by members, the documents capture the different objectives for each use case and define a distinct set of requirements that clearly outline a path forward to a smarter world,” said Katsuhiko Kawazoe, Ph.D., president and chairperson of the board, IOWN Global Forum. “The use cases are categorized into human-centric applications that assist and enhance the means for communication (AIC), and smart city applications that aim for autonomy that goes beyond human capability (CPS).”
The mission of IOWN GF is to develop fundamental technologies in communication, computing, data, and energy efficiency that would bring a quantum leap performance improvement and enable a much smarter world with advanced applications, including those with digital twin computing.
