New Launch: AI and Machine Learning Training for AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator
The world’s biggest Cloud company, AWS has announced the launch of the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator to create a sustainable future for everyone. The accelerator would focus on innovations and growth of the startup ecosystem specifically servicing the Smart City infrastructure movement. These include real estate, manufacturing, energy management, and water. Urban mobility and transportation are also included in this AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator program.
Why AWS launched the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator?
Built environments cause the maximum levels of pollution and green house emissions. According to the United Nations, about 40% of global energy use and about 30% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions are released from the built in environment. This puts major challenges in the path to building a sustainable future with Earth-friendly infrastructure. The main goal of this program is to stop climate change, and look to build an environment that can reverse the ill effects of climate change. The next AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator cohort with a focus on infrastructure that empowers startups and leadership in the space to define, grow, and scale the cutting-edge solutions needed to solve today’s biggest infrastructure challenges.

The six-week accelerator program would include virtual training and mentoring in infrastructure technology management. The AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator would majorly focus on new-gen technologies such as AI, machine learning (ML) and high-performance computing (HPC). As a reward, high-performing startups could earn up to $100,000 in AWS computing credits through AWS Activate. This reward would allow the startup participants to experiment with and accelerate how they transform their data and operations in the Cloud.
Why join the AI and Machine Learning Training for AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator?
Startups that are picked for the cohort stand a chance to showcase their products to select AWS customers.
Jeff Kratz of AWS writes, “AWS customers, subject matter experts, and key community participants will engage directly with startups throughout the program by serving as advisors and mentors, focused on helping accelerate startups’ business growth and cloud capabilities, in order to drive the transition to sustainable cities and joint solutions to climate change. Startups are also eligible to receive assistance with go-to-market and business development planning.”
“The AWS Accelerator gave us global exposure—markets, mentors, potential customers and investors. As a part of the accelerator, we were able to learn how to pitch our solution differently and it helped push our sales globally,” said Govinda Upadhyay, chief executive officer (CEO) of SmartHelio, which was one of the finalists for the AWS Clean Energy Accelerator. “We were able to leverage our association with AWS to build trust among our clients and investors.”
