Writer, the AI Writing Assistant for Companies, Secures $21 Million in Series A Funding Led by Insight Partners

Writer, the AI writing assistant for professional users, announced today a $21 million Series A funding round as the company transforms the way people write. The financing was led by New York-based global private equity and venture capital firm Insight Partners with a slew of top machine learning experts, SaaS operators, writers, and CEOs participating, including Gradient Ventures, the Todd & Rahul Angel Fund, Scott Belsky, Oliver Jay, Jack Altman, Allison Pickens, Packy McCormick, Lenny Rachitsky, Austin Rief, Ankur Nagpal, Alex MacCaw, Camille Ricketts, Vivek Sodera, Julia Lipton, and James Beshara. The funding will be used to invest in product, engineering, and GTM hiring.

“Writing is the last unstructured business process,” said May Habib, CEO and co-founder of Writer. “Most teams don’t have the resources to ensure strong, consistent writing across every single person who works at a company, so we provide a seamless way to help everyone write well, write fast, and be on-brand. This funding helps us achieve our vision of great writing for everyone faster.”

Writer’s platform gives companies a single source of truth for content guidelines, makes brand compliance simple, and uses in-context coaching to teach team members how to write using their company’s voice. Other writing assistants are focused on the technical aspects of writing, are optimized for single-player mode, and ignore data security. By contrast, Writer focuses on the challenges teams face around scaling content production, staying consistent with the brand, and making sure no one ever has to write the same thing twice. It is built to make collaboration on writing easy across teams and enterprises, and is designed to keep data secure, private, and compliant with data regulations.

“May and Waseem and their phenomenal founding team have the skills, experience, and drive to solve this problem,” said Anna Patterson, founder and managing partner at Gradient Ventures. “Writing quality and consistency is key to any business, and Writer cleverly leverages ML to build intelligence, suggest recommendations, and allow any user to become an effective communicator.”

Writer raised $5 million in seed funding in August 2020 to launch its technology – using AI to help companies write faster and better. The company has experienced significant growth, more than tripling ARR in the last 12 months, and this year has expanded to serve more than 150 leading companies, including InVision, Bill.com, Vistaprint, Handshake, Deloitte, and UnitedHealthcare.
