Huawei, China Mobile, and Industry Partners Release 5G-Advanced Technology Evolution Document

Huawei released a document titled  5G-Advanced Technology Evolution from a Network Perspective Towards a New Era of Intelligent Connect X  with China Mobile and other industry partners. This document is the first in the industry to expand the architecture and technical direction of 5G-Advanced, with the goal of providing guidelines that advance 5G technologies and build a sustainable 5G industry.

Although it is spreading rapidly, 5G has not yet reached maturity. To extract greater social and economic value from 5G, the 3GPP officially announced 5.5G as the second phase of 5G, calling it 5G-Advanced. From here, industry partners reached consensus on the development of 5G-Advanced and drafted this document to clarify the requirements and technologies for its evolution from 5G, thus accelerating its development across networks.

To enhance network capabilities and meet increasingly diverse service requirements, 5G-Advanced will evolve both 5G architecture and technology.

At the architectural level, the 5G-Advanced network must fully take into account the concept of cloud native network, edge network, network as a service, and continue to improve network capabilities and eventually move towards network integration in the cloud and the integration of the computer network. At the network technology level, 5G-Advanced networks must have the characteristics of intelligence, convergence and enablement.
