AiThority Interview With Ofer Tziperman, CEO, Anagog
What inspired you to start a company in the AI space?
Our founding team has deep knowledge in the AI space, in mobile technologies, location-based services and more. The first solution we introduced to the market was a location-based app that assists consumers in finding parking spots based on crowd-sourced data. And while that was great, we realized our technology and knowledge in the AI space could be taken much farther. Over the past few years, we’ve filed more than 20 patents and have created the world’s first mobile edge-AI engine that fiercely protects consumer privacy without shutting them off from the rest of the world.
Could you explain the monetization opportunities of app data?
The traditional monetization model for app data is that the app vendor gains permissions from users to obtain some information – such as location data and perhaps some demographic information, and then sells that data to third parties who, in turn, use the information for targeted ads and offers. While it feels like business as usual for many people, this model is also a serious invasion of user privacy. As consumers become increasingly wary of giving up their personal data while someone else makes money from that data, there is a growing need for solutions that protect consumer privacy. And that’s what we’re doing at Anagog. Information collected on the user’s smartphone remains there unless the user chooses to share it. Marketers can still reach that user with highly targeted offers because the phone learns the user’s profile and accordingly pulls in offers that are relevant, but without sending out any personal identifiable data.
What are the core tenets of your JedAI engine?
JedAI is a software development kit (SDK) for iOS and Android applications. JedAI is the industry’s first smartphone-based, edge-AI engine that collects and uses data from a smartphone’s sensors to build an on-device user profile. Consumers are never forced to share their personal identifiable information (PII). Instead, JedAI understands the user’s mobility, activities and locations and provides accurate, contextually aware and geo-targeted services directly on the consumers’ mobile devices, while ensuring users remain in control over their privacy.
How do you amplify usefulness of your technology?
JedAI enables companies to market to users using first-party data generated by the user’s mobile device sensors to allow the phone to better understand the user’s mobility and real-life behavior. It facilitates better segmentation and personalized customer-contextual offerings, including contextual ads and marketing offers. But rather than using the traditional ‘push’ model by pushing data and relevant offers to the apps from the cloud, based on the user’s profile kept on the cloud, JedAI pulls in offers that meet the user’s profile and needs without sharing any PII.
Are JedAI & BISense to be used in tandem? How can your clients also use them separately?
In case users are willing to share any part of their data, (i.e. when they are being offered some value against it), then we have demonstrated with a new patented technology, how user privacy can be kept even under such circumstances. In our latest release of JedAI 4.0, we incorporated BISense into its features, so our clients receive all the latest benefits of JedAI along with the privacy-by-design big data analytics of BISense.
Tell us about the main industries that will truly benefit by using Anagog’s product? (use cases)
The retail industry is a great example of an industry that benefits from JedAI. By adding the Anagog 360-degree offline profiling of the customer on the phone itself, retailers can make their offers much more personal and granular. Using JedAI, the phone can become the digital extension of its owner, that can pull only relevant offers, without disclosing user’s ID, and display them to the user just on time with a perfect contextual fit (based on location, activity or time). This allows retailers to significantly increase the customer engagement and achieve higher share of customer’s wallet and reduce churn.
The automotive industry is shifting toward offering mobility as a service. Automakers can truly delight their customers when they know more about their mobility needs, but that means understanding driver behaviors both in and out of their vehicles. Anagog’s JedAI algorithms profile the lifestyle and behavior of drivers on their phones with full privacy mechanism, monitoring out-of-vehicle activity and context to offer benefits like these:
- Contextualized offerings based on location and activity;
- Promoting services and offers to users based on where they park and end-destination routing;
- Predictive analytics: Churn, car purchasing intent, servicing and maintenance;
Banks are also keen to understand their customers in a better way, so they can offer them much more personal services. While they are already using 360-degree online profiling algorithms, they find great need for Anagog’s 360-degree offline profiling, as it offers a much better understanding of customer’s lifestyle, understanding major life events and even predicting customer’s needs. This enables banks to make more contextual and personal banking possible.
How has GDPR impacted your business?
We built our core business before GDPR regulations were in place, but because our technology is built around data privacy, and without sending any data out of the phone, it is completely GDPR compliant. More governments around the world are looking to implement GDPR-like regulations, which benefits our business greatly. While many marketers worry that GDPR and other privacy regulations will negatively impact their businesses, JedAI makes marketing to the right people at the right time and in the right place completely possible – it’s just that the marketer doesn’t have private information about that user. The biggest impact for us is that we must help marketers understand they can reach the right targets without knowing who they are reaching. We have demonstrated what’s really important for marketers is to increase the engagement of customers, without the need to collect and maintain sensitive PII data in their databases.
Do you think tomorrow’s technological innovations will be impacted by AI?
AI can be a powerful tool for good and is changing the world. Almost every industry is introducing AI or machine-learning technologies from industrial manufacturing to marketing. The technology’s time has come, and the trend will keep growing.
How do you keep updated about the latest trends in the technological space?
In this fast-changing world, I am making sure to attend key conferences and to subscribe to the relevant expert groups over the social networks. The amount of innovation that is currently happening is really exciting.
What are you currently reading?
I am reading the biography of Sam Wolton ‘Made in America’. The personal story of the Walmart’s founder. In his own words: “It’s a story about entrepreneurship, and risk, and hard work, and knowing where you want to go and being willing to do what it takes to get there. And it’s a story about believing in your idea even when maybe some other folks don’t, and about sticking to your guns.”
One gadget/application that you cannot live without?
Like it or not, I can’t manage without WhatsAap. That’s the app I use most.

Where do we see Anagog three years down the line?
Anagog will continue to be a leader in the edge-AI space and will have many Fortune 1000 customers in the retail, banking, automotive, advertising and insurance markets.
Thank you, Ofer! That was fun and hope to see you back on AiThority soon.
