Amazon’s Game-Changer: Championing responsible AI with US AI Safety Institute
Revolutionizing Consumer Experiences: Cutting-Edge AI is Powering Generative Magic
When it comes to game-changing innovations, few technology can compare to artificial intelligence (AI). There are now new generative AI use cases that can enhance consumer experiences, increase staff productivity, promote economic growth, and more, all thanks to the emergence of large language models (LLMs) with hundreds of billions of parameters. By collaborating with our customers and governments, Amazon will continue to responsibly employ AI technologies, prioritizing safety, justice, and security in their development and implementation. Their position is that governments should prioritize the establishment of robust risk-based regulatory frameworks and safeguards that do not impede technological advancement or its practical use.
Standing alone against a blue sky with a few clouds in the distance is the United States Capitol. In order to maintain the United States’ position as a global leader in artificial intelligence regulation by 2024, we require a long-term strategy for the technology that includes a focus on responsible and safe innovation, open markets, and trade-friendly laws.

As part of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium, Amazon and NIST are working to create a new field of measurement science. This field will help find scalable, proven, and interoperable metrics and approaches that can be used to build trustworthy AI and responsibly use it. Under this Consortium, NIST does not assess commercial products and does not support any service or product that is utilized. Delve deeper into this Consortium’s offerings.
Empower Your Organization: Unleashing the Power of Tools and Methodology for Maximum Success
Organizations can utilize the tools and methodology developed by the Institute, made possible by Amazon’s $5 million in compute credits, to assess the safety of their foundation models. Our primary research interests lie in enhancing pre-deployment testing with a focus on domain specific risks and creating evaluation approaches for very large parameter models. This work will further establish a reliable and interoperable basis for the creation and implementation of ethical AI, building upon crucial ISO standards and the efforts of other AI institutes.
The Institute was unveiled by Vice President Kamala Harris during the Global Summit on AI Safety in the UK. The summit, which drew international political and corporate leaders, was held in response to President Biden’s October 30th Executive Order. A few months back, Amazon gave its stamp of approval to the White House’s Voluntary AI Commitments. These pledges outline lofty but attainable goals for risk management and are based on long-term, adaptable best practices that can change with advances in AI.
