AiThority Interview with Gerry Miller, CEO at Cloudticity

AiThority Interview with Gerry Miller, CEO at Cloudticity

Hi Gerry, please tell us about your role and the technology you handle at Cloudticity.

I am the Founder & CEO of Cloudticity. I spend my days thinking about how to help the healthcare industry best leverage Cloud technology to enable them to help people live healthier lives.

How much has your role evolved in the last 8-10 months on the face of a pandemic?

Being a Cloud-native organization, Cloudticity has always operated with a remote team, so the pandemic hasn’t really affected our day-to-day working style. We have had the privilege of helping organize pandemic responses across the board, such as the work we did with the New York State Department of Health, as well as helping large telehealth companies scale to handle the growing need for their services.

What is Cloudticity and the services you currently offer?

We started Cloudticity in 2011 with the Purpose of helping every human on Earth become healthier through our work. We help healthcare organizations successfully use Cloud technologies to drive better agility, security, compliance, availability, performance, and cost efficiency. Cloudticity is a Managed Services, Managed Security, and Managed Compliance partner for healthcare, with additional strong capabilities around Professional Services and Healthcare Data Management.

Cloud management is a growing field. What are the most innovative developments in the new-gen Cloud management solutions?

In the Cloud, nearly everything can be automated via software, versus manually managing infrastructure that’s necessary in physical data centers. This allows a highly-optimized approach called AIOps, letting AI models automatically and continuously tune your Cloud environment for maximum security, availability, performance, and cost effectiveness. This approach frees up the humans that would normally be doing this undifferentiated heavy lifting to focus on more creative, value-add activities.

Tell us more about the Healthcare DataHub and how your customers leverage this platform.

The last decade has seen an explosion of healthcare data – electronic medical records; common healthcare data formats like HL7v2, CCDA, and FHIR; imaging systems that produce larger and more details studies than ever before; video and audio from telemedicine sessions; even body telemetry, like implantable devices and activity monitors. Collecting, normalizing, storing, and operating on these unimaginably large data sets, then accessing enough computing power to draw out insights, is a daunting task. In the past, the industry has relied on “integration engines” that are expensive to license, difficult to scale, and often lock data into proprietary, inaccessible formats. The Cloudticity Healthcare DataHub™ turns that traditional approach on its head, using only Cloud-native services and open source data storage formats, unleashing a tremendous amount of power at costs up to 90% lower than previous solutions.

How do you use AI and Automation tools for data management and Cloud improvements?

Our Cloudticity Oxygen™ managed services platform leverages the power of software to monitor thousands of operational data points in real-time, leveraging AI for continuous optimization for security, availability, performance, and cost-effectiveness. These insights are then automatically implemented by Oxygen’s automation platform, removing human intervention from day-to-day Cloud management and improvement activities.

What is the future of Cloud Computing? What kind of talent are you looking for?

Cloud computing will offer more and more opportunities for automation while adding more services over time. We’re already seeing specialized Cloud-based databases for blockchain, time series storage, document storage, as well as some wonderful innovations on traditional relational database engines. We’re also seeing an explosion of AI tools, from highly-specialized services for activities like fraud detection, natural language processing, image analytics, and even branching into vertical areas like Healthcare and Financial Services. At the same time, edge computing and 5G are blurring the lines between private and public data centers, bring the power of cloud on-prem for activities that might be hampered by network latency. Finally, IoT will continue to become more and more prevalent, forcing the security industry to leverage AI to stay ahead of threat actors. To take advantage of the rapidly increasing pace of innovation, at Cloudticity we people whose top asset is curiosity – the insatiable desire to continue learning and innovating as the industry moves ahead with no end in sight.

3 Predictions for the AI-based IT Ops and Cloud networking –

– “Friends don’t let friends build data centers” will take root in the next decade – managing your own compute and storage hardware will become as anachronous as generating your own electricity.

– Most ML and the resulting AI models generated will operate from quantum computers, exceeding human management capacity.
