Tom Bridge of the Macadmins Podcast to Join JumpCloud as Principal Product Manager for Apple

Louisville, CO. Today, Tom Bridge of the popular Mac Admins podcast announces he is joining cloud directory platform provider JumpCloud. His blog is below and available on the JumpCloud website.

I’ve spent too much time around journalists to bury the lede: I’m leaving consulting, and joining the product team at JumpCloud to bring their identity focus closer to the Apple platforms I’ve supported my entire career. Technolutionary, where I’ve spent the last 15 years as a consultant, will be in the very capable hands of my excellent partner, Mark Collien—after all, he taught me everything I know.

I will remain in Washington, D.C. with my family and join JumpCloudians from all over the nation who also work remotely. Don’t worry, I’ll still host the Mac Admins Podcast, and maintain the editorial independence that resonates with the community we serve.

This is a big change, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Technolutionary taught me so much, and it’s hard to leave behind. Consulting allows you access to the ins and outs of the businesses that trust you with their secrets, in exchange for building up their capabilities. I’ve learned so much from our clients, and have built things that I’m incredibly proud of—from leading a team during the construction of The Anthem to building a multi-tenant Munki in the cloud platform we were using to serve hundreds of endpoints, to mastering half a dozen MDM platforms for clients of all sizes. It’s now time to take what I’ve learned and move to the next level to serve a new audience.

Why JumpCloud? Why Now?
Throughout the years, I’ve worked with a lot of software companies, talking about their products, how they’re positioned, and how they could help our clients. For over a decade, Technolutionary focused on small-to-medium businesses that needed real support, but hadn’t developed an internal resource. We were constantly looking for a solution like JumpCloud: agile, cross-platform, highly capable, and forward-looking.

After talking with JumpCloud CTO Greg Keller about how they approached this past year, I began to see a real opportunity. MDM as a problem landscape is fairly bounded. Apple’s MDM specification serves as the outer bounds, and you work your way back to a root agent that does things beyond those bounds. JumpCloud may be new to MDM, but they’re hardly new to device and configuration management. Their root agent has been doing the hard work of configuration management for more than a decade on multiple platforms.

JumpCloud’s strength is in their identity focus, which turns a single directory into a lens for an organization’s core needs in IT. Their identity extends deep into the devices of their customers, and I’m excited to join the team working on making that identity present and focused on the Apple platform. The Apple platform is at an exciting crossroads, making inroads into enterprise clients in leaps and bounds. JumpCloud understands the value of embracing new platforms and working to empower users on their workstations, building strong networks of data for the IT departments they serve, and providing insights for organizations at so many levels.

Leveraging identity as a means to not just securely control user access, but to shape the landscape of the user’s tools, allows JumpCloud to offer incredible value to IT organizations. Building frameworks for endpoints that shape themselves based on who is using them, what their roles are, and what the needs of the organization are is the next level of systems management on Apple platforms.

The future is bright for the Apple platform at JumpCloud, and I’m thrilled to bring my experience as a Mac admin to the table. Together we will “Make Remote Work Happen” for all of JumpCloud’s customers and the Mac admin community as a whole.
