AiThority Interview with Jie Yang, Co-founder and CTO of Cybever

Jie Yang, co-founder and CTO of Cybever in this Q&A shares about Cybever’s 3D world creation platform, the latest in AI and cloud technologies, myths around the role of a CTO and more:

———-

Please talk about how your machine learning and decentralized systems background influenced Cybever’s AI-powered 3D world creation.

I’ve been fascinated by the power of machine learning ever since I took my first ML class about 20 years ago. It can automatically discover patterns and make smart decisions, simplifying complex tasks. 3D world creation is inherently complex and involves making numerous decisions around asset placement, layout, and interactivity—exactly the kinds of challenges ML and AI excel at. This is why I see AI as the perfect solution to democratize 3D creation, enabling anyone to build their own virtual worlds, regardless of technical skill.

Given my background in decentralized and distributed systems, I’ve naturally leaned towards leveraging cloud infrastructure to speed up computations and offer a scalable SaaS solution. I believe that AI and cloud combined have the potential to revolutionize 3D creation.

Highlight the role of cloud computing in enabling the scalability and efficiency of Cybever’s 3D world creation platform.

Cloud computing is essential to Cybever’s scalability and efficiency. By moving 3D production to the cloud, we eliminate the end-user’s need for expensive hardware upgrades and enable faster development with multi-GPU processing. This supports real-time collaboration across teams, fast rendering of high-quality 3D environments, and secure storage for asset libraries. Our pay-as-you-go model makes 3D creation more accessible and cost-effective, allowing creators to focus on their work without hardware limitations.

What unique AI techniques or algorithms are you applying to enhance the creative process for 3D artists on the platform?

One of the key AI models we are developing focuses on retrieving and suggesting relevant 3D assets from extensive licensed asset libraries based on the story, style, or environment the artist is working on. This allows creators to quickly find the best assets without having to manually search through massive libraries, streamlining the creative process.

Another AI model we’re working on is designed to automatically generate layouts for villages, towns, or cities, taking into account the terrain and environmental context. By doing so, the AI can intelligently arrange buildings and structures in a way that feels natural, saving significant time for artists and designers who would otherwise spend hours hand-crafting these complex layouts.

How do you see AI and cloud technologies transforming the future of 3D content creation, especially for non-technical creators?

AI and cloud technologies will make 3D content creation far more accessible for

non-technical creators. AI can take over complex tasks like asset retrieval, layout generation, and rendering, allowing users to focus on their creative ideas rather than technical details.

By simply providing input like sketches or text descriptions, anyone can create high-quality 3D worlds.

Cloud computing further reduces the need for expensive hardware and enables real-time collaboration. With scalable, pay-as-you-go access to powerful 3D tools, the combination of AI and cloud will democratize 3D creation, making it easier for anyone to bring their visions to life. I envision a future where even kids can create their own movies or games in just a few hours—projects that would have once required millions of dollars and professional teams.

In your opinion, what will be the biggest leap forward for AI-powered creative tools in the next 5 years?

The biggest leap for AI-powered creative tools will be enabling anyone to create high-quality, personalized content—whether it’s text, images, audio, video, 3D models, or even games—in a fast and cost-effective way–something that only professionals could do previously. AI will become smarter and more tailored to individual preferences, generating more precise and reliable content, and technologies like LLM Agents and Reinforcement Learning (RL) will play a key role in making this level of personalization and adaptability possible.

Additionally, advances in multimodal AI will allow creators to use a variety of inputs—such as text, sketches, images, or voice commands—to describe their ideas and control content generation more intuitively. This will make it easier than ever for creators to bring their visions to life, regardless of technical skill.

As a result, everyone can become UGC (User-Generated Content) creators, massively expanding the content market. This democratization of content creation will open up new opportunities for both casual creators and professionals alike, leading to an explosion of creative output.

What are some of the top challenges you’ve encountered in scaling Cybever’s AI capabilities, and how are you addressing them?

One of the top challenges we’ve encountered is addressing creators’ concerns that AI could replace their jobs. This concern is amplified by the fact that some AI companies train models using unlicensed or copyrighted content, which damages the creator community. At Cybever, we’re guided by a creator-first mindset and a bedrock commitment to ethically leveraging AI’s capabilities.

We believe that creators deserve recognition and fair compensation for their contributions, and we aim to create incentives that encourage them to keep producing high-quality, professional content. While AI can assist with many tasks, human creativity is irreplaceable. That’s why we’re committed to fairly sharing the benefits or revenue that AI generates, particularly when it has been trained using creators’ work. Additionally, Cybever’s partnerships with licensed asset libraries ensures that any environment we generate is filled with assets that are properly attributed to the original artist, so those artists can be fairly compensated.

Before we wrap up, could you share some common myths about the role of a CTO?

A common myth about the CTO role is that it’s purely technical—focused only on coding or managing engineering teams. In reality, being a CTO is just as much about understanding business strategy, market needs, and customer pain points. Another misconception is that the CTO’s job is done once the product is built and launched, but it is also my job to continue scaling and iterating the product. This is an ongoing process that requires constant adaptation and an up-to-date understanding of customer needs. Lastly, many assume that CTOs always have to be the ultimate authority on every technical detail. In practice, it’s often more about empowering the right experts within the team and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
