Hi Waseem, tell us about yourself and your role at Writer

Hi, I’m the co-founder and CTO of Writer.

For my co-founder and Writer’s CEO, May Habib, and me, language has always been central to our mission. Growing up in non-English-speaking households, we both developed a deep belief that the language you speak should never limit your opportunities.

Over the past decade, we’ve dedicated ourselves to solving complex language challenges. In 2013, we launched a company that developed software for dynamic content localization, where we first began working with transformers in the machine translation space. We quickly realized that natural language would become the new programming language. By 2020, May and I took this expertise, combined it with our deep understanding of natural language processing and enterprise needs, and founded Writer.

At Writer, our research, applied engineering, AI, and go-to-market teams are pioneering how people work with AI to create greater intelligence, passion, and performance in every organization. We’d like to hear about some of your latest product enhancements and more on your latest chat offering?

Yes! We recently released major updates to the Writer chat app offering, including the integration of Graph-based RAG. What’s particularly exciting is that this is the industry’s first instance of built-in-RAG chat apps available off the shelf. These apps also now have a 10M token upload capacity. More details on features and benefits:

  • Upload files with up to 10 million words (equivalent of 20,000 pages), and ask questions, summarize text, and generate content.
  • Enhanced transparency – Writer showcases its thought process, or the steps it took to formulate a response, including all sub questions and the specific excerpts from contributing sources.
  • Writer “modes” — new dedicated user experiences designed for specific types of tasks and better outputs, including “document mode” to help users go deep on research.

Zooming out for a second, these updates now provide Writer customers with detailed insights into how the LLM and platform is processing their questions, and the sources that contributed to the platform’s response. This transparency is imperative for enterprises to understand and trust that AI systems are going to elicit a response that is accurate and informed. Their businesses are counting on it and Writer is delivering.

Why should AI users pay more attention to RAG capabilities today?

Let’s start with what I’m excited about, and perhaps that will also clear up some misconceptions. I’ve witnessed numerous paradigm shifts. However, none compare to the current revolution we’re experiencing with AI-infused enterprise software. This isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a fundamental reimagining of how businesses operate, decide, and grow.

We’re moving beyond AI as a mere add-on. Today’s cutting-edge enterprise applications have AI woven into their very fabric, creating systems that are intuitive, predictive, and adaptive.

Key features of this new breed of software include:

  1. Contextual Intelligence: These systems don’t just process data; they understand it. For instance, an AI-powered CRM doesn’t just log customer interactions; it interprets sentiment, predicts needs, and suggests personalized engagement strategies.
  2. Natural Language Interfaces: Imagine asking your ERP system, “What’s our inventory situation for Product X in Region Y?” and receiving an instant, comprehensive answer. This is the reality of AI-native applications.
