AWS Announces Quantum Computing Enablement Platform- Amazon Braket
World leader in Cloud and Computing solutions, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a key Quantum computing acceleration and enablement service for hyper-dynamic teams working from various locations. The new solution is called AWS Braket, a fully managed Quantum Computing (QC) service that helps developers and researchers build their own QC ecosystems using product development tools, simulators, and access to QC hardware and accessories.

At the time of this announcement, AWS confirmed that the new solution is now available commercially and initial customers include Fidelity Investments, Volkswagen, Enel, University of Waterloo, Rahko, and Qu & Co. The general availability of AWS Braket would enable customers with adequate resource and assistance to test and troubleshoot quantum algorithms on simulated quantum computers. These computers usually run on the computing resources in AWS.
Michele Mosca, a Full Professor at the University of Waterloo says, “A quantum computing service, like Amazon Braket, that offers ready access to multiple hardware devices enables quantum readiness and agility.”
Key Features of AWS Amazon Braket
Amazon Braket allows developers and research teams to run their quantum algorithms on their choice of quantum processors based on different technologies, including systems from D-Wave, IonQ, and Rigetti. A unified development experience makes working with the simulated and quantum hardware workflows effective. You can test these workflows on quantum circuit simulators, and run them on different quantum hardware technologies.
Areas of Quantum Computing Applications
Quantum Computing is a raging trend within the data science industry. Together with Deep Learning, Neural Networking systems, 5G, and Augmented Intelligence, Quantum Computing is seen as the future of computation and engineering. It is already seen as the prospective solution to all complex challenges arising from restricted internet-based computational workflows and robotic process automation. By applying the basic and advanced concepts of QC, we can transform many industries and applications.
These include:
- Nano technology
- Chemical Engineering
- Metallurgy and material science
- Drug Discovery and epidemiology (a direct reference to cancer, renal diseases and COVID-19)
- Fintech and banking services
- AI and AutoML
- Internet of Things and Virtualization of workplace, and so on.
Programmable supercomputers that run on AI and Quantum Processors hold the key to solving numerous other challenges that require extensive human endurance, supervised machine learning intelligence, and edge-to-core hardware systems.

For researchers and enterprise developers, it’s best to equip them with all the Quantum Hardware and QC resources to fast-track R&D, innovation and delivery to market, building a strong value chain created to manage infrastructure, identity and access, and channel partnerships.
This controlled delivery of QC hardware and ancillary systems also ensure companies to facilitate training, learning and development within their own ambit, in addition to bringing to core, the value of building own academia-based quantum computers, processor and hardware of the future.
At the time of this announcement, Bill Vass, Vice President, Technology, at AWS said –
“As we see quantum computing technologies make more meaningful progress, thousands of customers are asking for ways to experiment with quantum computers to explore the technology’s potential and contribute to its development.”
Bill added, “The cloud will be the main way that customers access quantum computers and combine those systems with high-performance classical computing for certain types of computationally-intensive research. Amazon Braket makes it easy for organizations to begin experimenting with quantum computing today—from those just beginning to explore the possibilities to those that are already familiar with different quantum technologies and are ready to use it as a research tool. Our goal for Amazon Braket is to be a catalyst for innovation across the quantum community, bringing together hardware and software developers, researchers, and end users.”
Amazon Braket is available today in US East (N. Virginia), US West (N. California), and US West (Oregon) AWS Regions, with more regions planned for the future.

Amgen
Amgen is one of the world’s leading multinational biotechnology companies.
At the time of this announcement, Yax Sun, Director and Narbe Mardirossian, Scientist, at Amgen said –
“Quantum computing has the potential to outperform existing computational methods when it comes to important questions in drug discovery. In fact, the computational demand of running accurate quantum calculations scales quickly out of reach for classical computers as the size of the molecular system in our research increases, and we must resort to approximations that sacrifice accuracy for efficiency.
Yax Sun added, “By collaborating with the Amazon Quantum Solutions Lab and QSimulate, we’ve been able to quickly build and test a cloud-based approach using multiple compute resources on AWS for a critical drug discovery process–a process we plan to transition to a quantum computer in the future when it is practical. Looking ahead, Amazon Braket has the potential to substantially benefit the research and scientific community by providing on-demand access to quantum computing technologies and accelerate innovation in biotechnology.”
The Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC)
IQC is advancing the field of quantum information by developing powerful new quantum technologies with Amazon Braket and other companies that provide QC solutions for the future.
