Pega today announced new AI-driven legacy discovery capabilities in Pega GenAI Blueprint™ to accelerate the daunting task of modernizing legacy systems that hold organizations back. Check out today’s press release for more info.

The technical debt crisis continues to stifle organizations: a global Protiviti survey of C-level leaders found nearly 70% say technical debt significantly impacts their ability to innovate. But modernization projects are typically tedious and resource intensive, with the initial discovery and analysis of existing systems taking months of manual work. Meanwhile, employee productivity drops, customers defect from broken experiences, and IT continues to divert their limited resources to maintenance instead of modernizing.

Pega GenAI Blueprint, the AI-infused workflow design platform launched earlier this year, empowers organizations to reimagine their mission-critical workflows, fast. With newly added legacy discovery features, it jumpstarts digital transformation projects to rethink and replace inefficient systems and applications. Users can now leverage generative AI to analyze existing IT assets and quickly create new, modern, cloud-native application ‘blueprints’ that are ready to build. This sidesteps lengthy discovery processes that slow these projects from the start. Teams can then easily collaborate to optimize customer journeys and migrate apps to the cloud – not just lift and shift the same old tech to a new platform.

Available today, new Pega GenAI Blueprint legacy discovery capabilities include features for analyzing:

  • Workflows: Pega GenAI Blueprint analyzes Business Process Model and Notation (.bpmn) files commonly used for mapping legacy system workflows. These files are translated into new workflow blueprints built on Pega’s industry-leading case management. The workflows can be easily refined from static processes into dynamic, efficient customer journeys.
  • Process mining analysis: For those who lack .bpmn files or related system documentation, Pega Process Mining enables users to analyze systems to uncover process maps, inefficiencies, and optimization opportunities. Now those insights can be instantly turned into Pega blueprints with just one click to jumpstart the redesign process.
  • Data definitions: Users can import data definition language (.DDL) files – a syntax that describes database structures – directly from their legacy systems. Pega GenAI Blueprint analyzes these files to generate a data model for their reimagined application – including data objects, fields, and relationships. This enables quick data migration out of existing systems and into new cloud-native data services.
  • Integrations: Pega GenAI Blueprint analyzes OpenAPI documents in YAML (.yaml) – the standard for describing back-end system integrations – and automatically builds new data object models in the blueprint. Pega’s Live Data virtualization layer rationalizes the integrations into a logical data model between workflows and back-end systems, abstracting complexity and enabling increased workflow agility.

With more than 60,000 blueprints created since its launch, Pega GenAI Blueprint is the fastest adopted solution in Pega’s history. With nothing more than a natural language description of an app idea, it designs components in seconds using generative AI and drawing on Pega’s expertise, industry best practices, and internet knowledge. This makes innovation easy so anyone can go from app idea to functional app design exponentially faster and more completely than any other workflow design tool.

Pega GenAI Blueprint releases new features every week to make app design easier and faster. The latest updates include the ability to add new automation types, like AI and robotic processes, to the apps. Plus, with enhanced Live Preview, users can see how their app will look for different personas before going live, complete with their organization’s brand style and simulated data.

Quotes & Commentary:

“Our team is heavily focused on continually modernizing our systems so we can provide the best possible experience to our members,” said Arnie Ignacio, vice president of platform engineering, Navy Federal Credit Union. “Pega GenAI Blueprint has greatly accelerated our ability to reimagine our systems and get all stakeholders on the same page. By enabling us to import existing documentation on our legacy systems into our blueprints, we can kickstart our digital transformation projects even faster by significantly shrinking the time it takes to map our existing technology, which we can then optimize into more modern applications.”

“Pega GenAI Blueprint has the potential to disrupt the workflow design lifecycle by enabling business users, product managers, architects, and developers to move quickly and responsibly, from ideation to realization, for complex business processes,” said Prashant Gaonkar, vice president and global head of enterprise integration and process orchestration, Cognizant. “I believe that the ability to quickly create modern, ready-to-build cloud-native application blueprints helps deliver an optimized customer journey, and we are seeing a positive impact in Pega adoption when Pega GenAI Blueprint is leveraged.”

“There are only so many Band-Aids that IT can keep applying before their systems reach a breaking point,” said Kerim Akgonul, chief product officer, Pega. “But digital transformation is a herculean undertaking that’s typically fraught with failure. These new features in Pega GenAI Blueprint turbocharge modernization projects so organizations can finally shed their outdated tech and curb technical debt while paving the way for a future-ready business.”
