Airtel’s AI-based Solution Helps to Prevent Phishing & Fraud Messages
Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are indispensable tools and have transformed the landscape of different industries like marketing and sales, event management, healthcare, etc. One area where their superpowers are often discussed is the telecom industry.
Every day, millions of customers across the nation get unwanted calls and messages, which are promotional in nature. When implemented, the AI will automatically recognize bogus and promotional calls as well as communications from unreliable sources and steer clear of them.
Industry heavyweights like Google are using their spam-filtering AI, TensorFlow, to work on a macro level. Before a single malicious actor can infiltrate a target company or individual, it attempts to stop spam, which averages over 100 million communications every day.

Recently, Airtel and HDFC bank partnered to build a solution utilizing artificial intelligence/machine learning to detect and stop phishing, spam, and fraud across their messaging services.
TRAI’s New Regulation & the New Spam Filter
According to the letter addressed to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman PD Vaghela, uses an anti-spam filter capable of identifying and preventing up to two million messages per day.
This initiative comes days after TRAI announced the implementation of new regulations which were directed to address unwanted communications via calls and messages.
Spam Protection
The use of AI spam filters in call and SMS services would be mandated by the new regulations for all Indian telecom providers. The purpose of TRAI’s significant action is to protect consumers from scams and harassment. Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL are among the Indian telecom providers that must use artificial intelligence (AI) filters to prevent spam in their phone and SMS services under TRAI’s recently announced regulations.
The controls will be made to recognize and reject promotional and false messages and call from different sources, which are frequently used by con artists to swindle victims of their money.
The goal is to reduce the increasing volume of spam calls that bother and inconvenience customers.
The TRAI has ordered telecom firms to stop making marketing calls to 10-digit mobile numbers, which are frequently used by spammers and scammers, in order to further combat the issue of bogus calls and texts.

The government has also asked carriers to include a Call ID function that allows customers to recognize callers by seeing their name and photo on their mobile phone’s screen.
Users can avoid everyday calls and messages they receive about promotions, fraud, and other undesirable topics thanks to AI filtering. Such bothersome calls and messages will be promptly blocked by the filters upon detection.
Machine learning will only help AI become more proficient, protecting inboxes from unneeded risks and daily spam.
