Microsoft to invest US$2.9 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure in Japan while boosting the nation’s skills, research, and cybersecurity

Microsoft announced it will invest US$2.9 billion over the next two years to increase its hyper-scale cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Japan. It will also expand its digital skilling programs to provide AI skills to more than 3 million people over the next three years, open its first Microsoft Research Asia lab in Japan, and deepen its cybersecurity collaboration with the Government of Japan.  These investments aim to support Japan’s key pillar to tackle deflation and stimulate the economy by expanding the infrastructure, skilled talent, and security required to accelerate Japan’s digital transformation and adoption of AI. The announcement coincides with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s state visit to the United States, where he was joined by Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith, and Microsoft Japan President Miki Tsusaka. 

Google announced photo-editing tools powered by generative artificial intelligence free to all users of Google Photos

Google will give Google Photos users free access to various generative AI photo-editing tools. The business announced in a blog post that it will spread AI-powered editing features previously available only to Pixel phones and Google One cloud storage over the next few weeks. Magic Eraser removes unwanted things from photos, Photo Unblur sharpens out-of-focus shots, and Portrait Light rebalances lighting. Google said the extension will provide those functions to Pixel tablets and other devices. Google stated desktop users must use a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118+ or at least 3GB RAM, while mobile users must use Android 8.0 or iOS 15 or higher.

Mphasis, an Information Technology (IT) solutions provider specializing in cloud and cognitive services, today announced a multi-year global agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
