Amazon Campus Challenge: The First Edition in Italy Starts

A Unique Competition and a Concrete Experience in e-Commerce Designed for University Students Who Will Have the Opportunity to Obtain, in a Team, Awards up to € 10,000. an Opportunity for Small and Medium Enterprises to Start Selling Online and Develop Their Business in Italy and Abroad.

Amazon announces the launch of the first Italian edition of the Amazon Campus Challenge, a competition designed to complement the curriculum of university students attending the 2019-2020 academic year. Amazon Campus Challenge offers students the opportunity to give vent to their creativity and propensity for business development, developing a specific project for the positioning of real small and medium-sized businesses and related products on an e-commerce store, as well as to obtain, in team, awards up to € 10,000. For Italian SMEs it is an opportunity both to be supported by “next generation” students and to grow their business on, reaching customers of Amazon.it, Amazon.fr, Amazon.es and Amazon .co.uk.

“Amazon Campus Challenge is a great exercise for students to really practice what they have learned at the academic level and to offer a lot to a small-medium business such as, for example, new business perspectives and innovative ideas. Students will learn how to start a real business on Amazon and how to sell these SME products to our customers, “said Mariangela Marseglia, Amazon Country Manager in Italy and Spain. “This is also a good opportunity for small and medium-sized Italian companies to try online sales as an additional business channel and to engage in e-commerce, in practice understanding both the opportunities it offers in commercial terms and the importance of investing in these skills “.

Dozens of universities throughout Italy have already shown interest in this competition and to support their students, including Bocconi in Milan, Luiss in Rome, LUM Jean Monnet in Bari, University of Bari and University of Udine. Almost 100 teams have already entered the competition.

“Our university has always been careful to combine theoretical models and concrete experience,” says prof. Antonello Garzoni, Dean of the LUM Jean Monnet Faculty of Economics. “Amazon Campus Challenge allows our students to learn in the field and to share new models for online sales with real companies.”

Amazon Campus Challenge: phases and awards

Amazon Campus Challenge is already open for registration on www.amazoncampuschallenge.it and is also active in two other countries, France and the United Kingdom. This team competition is divided into 4 phases, until June 2020, which include team registration, SME research and the implementation of a business plan, the start of online sales and the final presentation.

Once registered, participants will form teams of 2 to 5 students from the same or different universities and will immediately begin to identify the SMEs to be involved, companies that have not yet created an account on Amazon. After agreeing to participate with interested SMEs, the teams will define and implement an e-commerce strategy to launch a store on Amazon. From January to May 2020, each team will support its SME in commercial activities and, by June 2020, only 5 selected teams will present their experience and sales strategy to a jury of top managers of Amazon in Italy at the Milan office. The Amazon Campus Challenge rules are available here .

The winning team will receive a € 10,000 prize and the other four teams will receive a € 7,000 prize for second place, € 5,000 for third place and € 3,000 for fourth and fifth respectively. All awards will be shared among team members.
