ChatGPT Is the Most Visited AI Tool Surpassing Google Bard and Midjourney
Dominance of ChatGPT
In the past year, ChatGPT has emerged as the unequivocal frontrunner in terms of prominence among AI chatbots. A recent study reveals that the OpenAI-developed AI chatbot significantly outperformed its rivals, garnering an astounding 14.6 billion visits in total from September 2022 to August 2023.
To provide context for ChatGPT’s accomplishments, that figure signifies 60% of the overall traffic directed towards the leading 50 AI tools throughout that time frame. ChatGPT received an average of 1.5 billion monthly visits, which surpassed the combined traffic of its nearest competitors.

ChatGPT Has Emerged as the Unequivocal Frontrunner
During the year, a staggering 3.8 billion visitors ranked Character AI, a website that facilitates conversations with an assortment of AI chatbots featuring distinct personas, in an extremely distant second place. While undeniably remarkable, that figure is negligible when compared to the nearly 15 billion visits recorded on ChatGPT. In contrast, a prior investigation had unveiled that Character AI, not ChatGPT, garnered greater user engagement, with visitors dedicating approximately eight times more time to the platform. Over the previous year, significant competitors such as Microsoft’s Bing Chat and Google’s Bard failed to even come close to regaining ground. Google Bard, which debuted earlier this year, ascended to the sixth position with 241 million cumulative visits. In contrast, Microsoft’s Bing Chat failed to secure a spot within the top ten.
Putting aside the dominance of ChatGPT, it is undeniable that AI tools are consistently attracting a substantial volume of traffic, as evidenced by the monthly average visits surpassing 4 billion in May 2023, up from 241 million in September 2022. It is not unexpected that the top 50 AI tools garnered a cumulative 24 billion visits between September 2022 and August 2023.
