OpenAI’s Superalignment Team
Leike and OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who left from the business last week, founded the Superalignment team last July. The overarching objective was to control superintelligent AI by resolving the fundamental technical issues within the next four years. Team members included engineers and scientists from OpenAI’s former alignment division and other departments around the company. Their goal was to conduct research that would help ensure the security of models used internally and externally, and to reach out to and collaborate with other organizations in the AI industry through programs like a research grant program.A corpus of safety research was published by the Superalignment team, and they were able to channel millions of dollars in grants to other researchers. Unfortunately, the Superalignment team had to battle for more upfront investments as product launches started to consume more and more of OpenAI’s leadership time. These investments were vital to the team’s stated goal of creating superintelligent AI for the benefit of all humans.
Korean Air to build AI Contact Center Korean Air has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Korean Air has teamed with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a global leader in cloud technology, to build an AI Contact Center (AICC) platform that uses AI to improve customer center services. Keehong Woo, President of Korean Air; Kenneth Chang, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer; Francessca Vasquez, Vice President, Professional Services and GenAI Innovation Center, AWS; Pasquale DeMaio, Vice President, Amazon Connect, AWS; Kee Ho Ham, CEO, AWS Korea; and Ben Cabanas, Director, AWS Global Sales Technology, attended the AICC kick-off event at Korean Air’s headquarters in Seoul on May 20.
Softbank’s New AI Customer Service Solution
Softbank adopted AI customer service software. The Japan-based Softbank Group’s telecommunications unit said the new approach will make customers sound more cooperative with agents.Softbank publicly supports AI’s ability to solve this issue. The telco started using SB Intuitions Group’s 350bn-parameter LLM in October 2023 to provide “generative AI services tailored to Japanese business practices and culture.” At MWC Barcelona in February, Softbank joined four rivals in a so-called ‘Global Telco AI Alliance’ to create LLMs for the telecommunications industry, including chatbots to boost customer service.
