Pinterest Introduces New Pinterest APIs to Improve Shopping Experiences

When you ask an average marketer about video marketing campaigns, Pinterest may not feature in the top-5 channels. But, that could change now, as Pinterest has introduced a series of new APIs to improve shopping experience. “Video in Catalog” is one of these APIs that Pinterest has introduced to support merchants with newer ways to reach Pinners. By adding the new APIs, Pinterest would expect Pinners and Merchants would have an exemplary experience engaging with top-quality videos on the channel. This would also encourage users to invest in video and share with merchants by enabling video assets. These video assets would be a part of the product catalog to give Pinners a view of the product from multiple angles when making a purchase decision and driving conversions.

What’s New with Pinterest APIs

Merchants can now expand the scope of their social media marketing campaigns by embracing Pinterest. The latest set of Pinterest APIs aims at helping online retailers realize success on the platform. Currently, 400 million Pinners use Pinterest to shop and engage with their favorite brands. Compared to other channels such as Instagram and YouTube, Pinterest may still be lagging as far as merchants ROI is concerned, but the new Pinterest APIs is a worthy step toward changing the trend.

The new updates are:

  • The Pinterest API for Shopping
  • Product Tagging for Pins
  • Video in Catalog,
  • and Shop Tab on Business Profiles

“At Pinterest, our goal is to turn inspiration into action, and our vision for shopping is to make it possible to buy anything Pinners are inspired by on the platform. In 2021, the number of Pinners engaging with shopping surfaces on Pinterest grew over 215%, and 89% of weekly Pinners use Pinterest for inspiration in their path to purchaseThe new shopping features such as the API for Shopping allows brands and retailers to reach high-intent Pinners during the earliest stage of their shopping journey with the most updated catalog data.” – Jeremy King, SVP of Engineering at Pinterest
