Businesses Are at Risk of Cybersecurity Breaches Due to Worker Error

Cybercrimes have increased 300% since the pandemic, according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. Some 95% of cybersecurity breaches are due to human error. Questionmark, the online assessment provider, has launched a new cybersecurity skills test, with cybersecurity workforce development specialists CyberVista, to help firms meet this challenge.

The average data breach costs firms $3.86m according to research by IBM Security. Despite these costs, many firms do not have people with the right skills to protect them. CyberVista estimates the global cybersecurity workforce needs to expand by 89%. Organizations have a crucial role to play by upskilling existing or new employees.

To help employers navigate growing cyber risks, Questionmark has launched new ready-made assessment content, the Critical Cyber Diagnostic Test by CyberVista.

The test is aimed at cybersecurity specialists and other workers who manage sensitive data and systems as part of their job. It will help employers to better understand what skills their teams already have.

“Our test can help identify areas of strength and weakness. Employers can use the results of the assessment to make better training or recruitment decisions for critical cybersecurity roles. In doing so, they can help protect their organization from costly cybercrimes and data breaches.”

Joshua Hester, Executive Director of Training at CyberVista, said: “There used to be a time when only the major industry players needed to be concerned with cybersecurity attacks. But the accelerated trend towards cloud services and remote working have widened the attack surface for companies of all sizes. Now, any organization can be targeted by a phishing campaign, ransomware attack, or data breach.

“We are excited to partner with Questionmark to provide a broad skills assessment to help organizations evaluate their security posture. The test helps organizations discover potential vulnerabilities in their employees and strengthen their people by assessing knowledge of the critical cybersecurity risks and best practices in defending themselves. Today’s workforce must rise to meet the cybersecurity threats of tomorrow, and there is no time like the present.”
