Keyavi Data Corp., a cybersecurity trailblazer whose breakthrough technology is transforming the very nature of the data security industry, announced that Gary Hayslip has joined the company’s board of directors. Hayslip, a world-renowned cybersecurity expert, brings deep leadership and technology experience to Keyavi’s board, with a successful 25-year career in multiple roles as chief information security officer (CISO), chief information officer (CIO), deputy director of IT and chief privacy officer in the federal, municipal and private sectors.

He currently serves as the global CISO for SoftBank Group International and SoftBank Investment Advisers, where he orchestrates cybersecurity strategies for publicly held investment funds with over $160 billion in capital spanning more than 240 portfolio companies worldwide.

At Webroot Software, Hayslip was responsible for all information security strategies and policies, standards, procedures and internal controls – from protecting critical data resources to risk management.
As San Diego’s former CISO and deputy director, Hayslip was the driving force behind the municipality’s World Smart City Initiative—a crucible for nurturing clusters of entrepreneurial cybersecurity companies and talent.
Hayslip began his cyber career in the U.S. Navy, both as an active-duty command information security officer and as the deputy head of IT for the Pacific fleet’s Southwest Regional Maintenance Command.
He is the co-author of two volumes on best practices for CISOs entitled, The CISO Desk Reference Guide, as well as several other books: The Executive Primer: An Executive’s Guide to Security Programs and Developing your Cybersecurity Career Path. Hayslip also published The Essential Guide to Cybersecurity for SMBs to help security practitioners protect startups and small businesses from cyberattacks.
As an active member of professional organizations ISC2, the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), ISACA and Infragard, Hayslip holds the industry’s CISSP, CISA and CRISC certifications. He also earned dual degrees – a BS in information systems management from the University of Maryland and an MBA from San Diego State University.
