AiThority Interview with Vita Shannon, VP, Partner and Ecosystems at Domo
Hi Vita, please tell us about your current role at Domo and how you reached here?
My role with Domo is to expand and enhance the strategic partner ecosystem. As I observed what was happening for my clients and businesses in general, I saw the need for critical data from multiple sources, in real time, and delivered in a format that satisfies the needs for all – from a sophisticated analyst to a generalist.
Domo was mentioned in a conversation with a client at the time in relation to receiving business information. When I inquired to learn more, they pulled out their phone and started to show me all of their Domo dashboards. The information was displayed in such a visually appealing way, and the ease in which they were navigating the data was so simple, things as simple as showing me the reports and alerts that came in based upon parameters they set in the system. It was something I had not seen before.
I learned more about the company and saw other elements about the company culture that resonated with me. An example would be Josh James’s support for gender diversity in the industry, put into action and represented by the stellar women Domo has hired not only at the executive levels, but throughout the organization.
You have handled prolific portfolios in the past, including with KPMG. How did your experience in these companies prepare you for the BI Tech industry?
In my previous roles, I’ve had the opportunity to observe a wide variety of companies in different industries and stages of their business, but one theme has always run true: the continued desire for real-time insights to drive and enhance their business. These insights are multi-faceted: from improving top-line revenue, cost savings, product innovation, market expansion to compliance and more.
How important is your role in the modern context of pandemic and global economic slowdown?
The ecosystem is the operative word. In times of uncertainty and economic slowdown, the ecosystem represents this mutual desire to grow and nurture business. The ecosystem creates ways to provide solutions to customers when they are thriving, but also when they need to weather challenging times.
How should B2B tech companies approach partnerships and in a co-sell / re-sell ecosystem?
Fundamentally it is about a symbiotic relationship, striving for mutual success. A company should seek out partnerships that share the same goals and perspectives about how you want to service your customers and be perceived. Identify which partners can bring you to the next level of your companies’ journey.
Why should companies focus more on hiring dedicated executives for strategic partner ecosystem? How do these initiatives help in customer experience / customer service management in the B2B tech context?
The ecosystem is a proven model to expand and enhance business. It also enables companies to bring a “best in class” solution to customers, tailored to whichever industry they are in.
Your personal milestone for 2021 in a still male-dominated BI industry:
My priority for 2021 is to expand on the success of Domo’s partner ecosystem and with our partners, offer joint customers a modern BI platform that delivers business value in record time. I also hope to be an example for women in the industry who want to pursue their aspirations, which they may have considered unattainable.
A piece of advice for every young female professional looking to build a career in B2B Tech industry:
Seek out a female mentor who has a desire to support and will share unfiltered experiences. Also, don’t be discouraged by setbacks and don’t be afraid to lean on those who have believed in you in the past.
Thank you, Vita! That was fun and we hope to see you back on AiThority.com soon.
