$DBO becomes the first live-trading social token for an NBA player
Miami Heat shooting guard/small forward Duncan Robinson announced the launch of ($DBO), his own personal cryptocurrency on Rally, making him the first NBA player with his own live-trading cryptocurrency. Fans who hold $DBO will have exclusive access to a host of benefits including limited edition merch, private in-person events, secret episodes of The Long Shot podcast, and all-access passes to private channels on Robinson’s Discord server.
“Starting off in D3 and going undrafted, I’ve always been the long shot,” said Robinson. “So many of my fans have expressed that they relate to this. Giving everyone in my corner of the metaverse a view of what goes on behind the scenes is my way of leveling the playing field for all of my fans. I want to grow with my super supportive community. That’s why I think this technology is the future of fandom and I’m excited to explore this new frontier with my day-ones.”

Robinson’s token represents entrance to a digital fan club where they can interact directly with him. Fans who own $DBO will gain access to several private chat channels within Robinson’s Discord server, have priority access to in-person events and gain access to private podcast episodes. Fans who play roles in his Discord server such as moderators or developers who build fan interaction tools will have opportunities to earn $DBO. Robinson will continue to offer additional benefits for holders of $DBO and his NFTs over the coming months.
“Crypto has gained momentum with basketball fans probably faster than any other sport,” said Nick Millman, VP of Partnerships at Rally. “Duncan is one of the first professional athletes to take this bold step and create his own shared economy with his fans. He’s showing the rest of the league and larger sports world that the connection between athletes and fans is one of the most exciting frontiers in the metaverse.”
