Generative AI Will Amplify PR Pros’ Creativity

The rise of generative AI in knowledge and creative work is transforming the way people approach communication and content creation. Specifically, Open.AI’s release of Chat GPT was a black swan event  in the world of technology, paving the way for new advancements in natural language processing and machine learning as well as spurring industries which have been historically slow to implement AI powered tools to adopt this innovation.

Despite the benefits of generative AI, many people are concerned about the impact it could have on their jobs, specifically those in the knowledge and creative fields, worrying that AI will become so advanced that it will replace these workers entirely. However, these concerns are misplaced. While AI technology has the potential to automate certain tasks and help with ideation, it simply cannot replicate the unique insights and creativity needed in these industries that only humans can bring.

In the PR industry for instance, generative AI tools are already being used to enhance the writing and ideation process. Humans will always be needed to do the relationship building and outside-the-box thinking needed to be successful in the field of public relations, as AI will never be able to replace the human touch necessary for good communication. These interpersonal connections that only people can create are irreplaceable. Therefore, at the end of the day, it’s important to remember that the point of generative AI technology is to be a tool to aid in the process, not something which can take over communications entirely.

However, as generative AI continues to advance, it’s important for PR professionals as well as others in creative industries to keep up with the latest technological trends and developments. This means staying informed about new tools and techniques as well as continuing to develop their own personal creativity, intuition and skill sets to dovetail with this tech. Just like how the rise of the internet created new markets and the need for new types of expertise which were unimaginable just a few decades ago, so too will the rise of generative AI technology lead to the development of new, human driven creative skills in the workplace.

AI technology isn’t going to completely take over creative and knowledge work. While AI tools can be useful for automating most repetitive, time consuming tasks, they likely won’t be able to replace the unique insights and creativity that only humans create. The human touch is an essential component of communication and PR, and it will always be in demand.

Yet the rise of generative AI in knowledge and creative work is an exciting development that should be embraced by all if they want to stay at the cutting edge. While there are concerns about the impact it could have on jobs, the reality is that AI technology serves to enhance human creativity, not replace it.
