iDenfy is pitching its face-based identity verification solution to the Lithuanian government. The company is headquartered in the country, and is specifically encouraging the government to use its facial recognition tech to crack down on illegal immigration from neighboring states.

To that end, iDenfy suggested that the government could deploy its app at the Lithuanian border, and at Turkish airports that serve as departure points for many illegal migrants. The facial recognition technology would be used to scan each traveler, and cross-reference each face with databases that detail someone’s nation of origin and their immigration status. The app would also help verify the authenticity of each individual’s physical travel documents.
The iDenfy offer has the backing of the Fintech Hub LT Association, a trade organization that represents the interests of the FinTech industry in Lithuania. They argued that facial recognition would prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country, while reducing the amount of time needed to complete the screening process.

“We hope that the solution we propose will serve national security, as the uncontrolled flow of migrants and the unpredictable actions of the Belarusian regime pose risks to everyone,” said iDenfy CEO Domantas Ciulde. “It would help illegal migrants to return to their country of origin more quickly and to provide humanitarian assistance for those who are in need.”

Many other countries (including the US) have used facial recognition to screen travelers at their borders. iDenfy, meanwhile, is best known for its work in the financial sector, where it has supplied onboarding technology for multiple cryptocurrency exchanges and payment providers.
