Instana Adds Rancher-managed Kubernetes Clusters Support In Its Microservices Application Management Solution

Only APM Solution to Provide Visibility Into Orchestrated Applications, the Orchestration Infrastructure and Orchestration Management System

Instana, the leading provider of real-time Application Performance Management solutions for Kubernetes based applications, announced support for the Rancher Kubernetes management platform. Instana will now detect, identify and indicate Kubernetes clusters being managed by Rancher.

“The deployment and management of applications continue to become more complex, especially when microservices apps are orchestrated via Kubernetes,” said Peter Abrams, COO and co-founder at Instana. “It’s critical for Application Management solutions like Instana to provide the most complete visibility into the structure of application infrastructure, while leveraging the observability built into those systems.”

Two years ago, Instana became the first APM solution to provide monitoring and insights into Kubernetes-based applications. Last year, the automatic APM solution added support for monitoring Kubernetes pods and clusters in addition to the applications running on top of the orchestration infrastructure. The latest release adds visibility into the orchestration management layer developed and deployed by Rancher.

Instana automates the discovery of services, automatically understands their quality and immediately presents information on quality and performance to DevOps. Unlike conventional monitoring solutions, Instana’s automated APM solution operates without requiring ongoing engineering effort, human configuration, or even application restarts. Developers are able to determine build quality with one click. Likewise, traditional Ops teams can quickly understand the root cause of performance issues in production.

As customers leverage Rancher to bring a consistent management layer to their Kubernetes environments, Instana and Rancher are working together to do the same for performance visibility. Instana automates application observability and monitoring for microservices deployed into a Rancher managed Kubernetes environment. When Rancher is present in the system, Instana shows Rancher in the technology stack, application map and Kubernetes dashboards, allowing users to drill into any Rancher managed Kubernetes environment.
