SAP, Roche and Tenthpin Partner to Create New Standard for Clinical Trial Supplies Operation

The supply chain underlying a clinical trial is a complex entity. Supply chain managers know that various things can go wrong in their efforts to deliver supplies. And drug makers need an efficient supply chain with an effective infrastructure to meet their clinical trial goals. The need is even more evident as the global pandemic impacts supply chains all over the world. Organizations conducting clinical trials need visibility into demand to ensure supply and packaging availability. Hence, there is a need to come up with new supply standards that match up to different types of challenges involved with the clinical trial supply chain.

To address the same, software company SAP, pharmaceutical company Roche, and a global management consulting firm Tenthpin has formed an industry consortium. The consortium consists of numerous stakeholders from the life sciences industry, including clinical trial and interactive response technology system vendors, and will focus on defining and orchestrating optimally aligned clinical supplies processes.

To revamp the clinical supplies processes, SAP with its innovative Customer service is designing a next-generation CSTM solution built on SAP S/4 HANA and SAP’s industry cloud. The solution will address the specific blinding and randomization needs for clinical trials to facilitate demand forecasting, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and shipments of clinical trial materials. Through the inclusion of clinical trial parameters such as planned and active and enrollment rates SAP, Roche, and Tenthpin address key priorities of the life sciences industry by enabling more accurate planning and better inventory management.
