According to Atlas VPN research, recently leaked documents reveal that the Chinese government understated the Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate in Shandong province by up to 52 times. It is not too far of a stretch to assume that the government hides the real situation in other regions as well.
Ironically, the Chinese government prides itself on stopping the spread of the virus. Chinese citizens have no way of knowing the truth as The Great Firewall of China restricts access to most popular information outlets.

On the matter, Rachel Welch, Chief Operating Officer of Atlas VPN, expressed her concern: “I believe that every single person should have access to the latest information about the pandemic. Also, the study shows that countless government paid social media influencers to post over 500 million pro-government comments every year. Who is to say that these influencers are not spreading false information about the COVID-19?
