Storyblocks Welcomes New Leadership to Propel Mission of Diversifying Stock Content

  • Kristen Sanger Joins the Company as Vice President of Content, Alongside Lucy Huang as Vice President of Product and James Peel as Senior Vice President of Engineering

Storyblocks, the first and largest subscription-based platform providing unlimited stock content and tools for creators to keep up with the growing demand for video, welcomed three new hires. After experiencing overwhelming success in the wake of it’s latest campaign to create representation in stock content, Re:Stock 2.0  “Queer Spaces and Faces”, the company set to expand and welcome leaders in the content space in order to build a strong team of dedicated allies ahead of upcoming launches.

Storyblocks has appointed Kristen Sanger as its new Vice President of Content,  Lucy Huang as Vice President of Product and James Peel as Senior Vice President of Engineering. With over a decade of experience as a creative professional, Kristen will join the growing Storyblocks’ team to work together alongside Lucy and James to create more moving stories accelerated by combining unique content and technology. The new additions to the Storyblocks team were strategically made to reinforce the company’s overall goal of creating representation through stock content and expanding resources to assist more creators.

“What drew me to Storyblocks was the people, the mission and the size of the opportunity. Kristen joins Storyblocks from Shutterstock, where she was previously Senior Director, Head of Global Contributor Marketing. A valued member of the Shutterstock team for four years, Kristen joined the company in September of 2017 and went on to grow the brand’s artist network from less than 400,000 artists to over 1.8 million. Kristen has extensive experience launching global campaigns, including Shutterstocks’ Artist Series and All the Best Artists initiatives. She will channel this expertise to drive strategic and impactful campaigns for Storyblocks moving forward.

Lucy Huang, Storyblocks’ vice president of product, joins the team to scale core products and explore new arenas to widen Storyblocks’ competitive advantage. Lucy served as the vice president of product at CB Insights, where she grew a large product team from scratch. Lucy grew company revenue over nine times during her tenure. She previously held leadership positions at early stage and growth stage companies Limelight and Marketing Evolution. Lucy will bring these collective experiences to the next phase for Storyblocks.

James Peel, Storyblocks’ Senior Vice President of Engineering, joins the company to build out the software, data engineering and machine learning capabilities to enable this exciting new growth. As Storyblocks continues to experience rapid growth, James will play a crucial role in balancing speed and scalability while leveraging disruptive emerging technologies. James joins Storyblocks from Tāne, a company he founded to solve the communication and collaboration challenges between homeowners and contractors. He originally launched his career in London at a UK telecommunications company, moving over to the US to work with technology startups in Silicon Valley/San Francisco and subsequently joining Capital One to focus on their digital and technology transformation.
