New Study Reveals the Most Popular Technological Gadgets in UK

Apple products make up four of the UK’s top five most wanted gadgets

New research has found the UK’s most popular tech items last year, with the iPad coming out on top.

The study, conducted by German Tech Magazine GamingGadgets, analysed the number of Google searches for tech products on sale in the last quarter of 2023, to reveal which items had the greatest number of searches on average in the build-up to new year.

It found that the iPad is the most searched tech item in the UK, receiving 37,505 searches a month on average. Apple’s flagship tablet offers ease and portability which may explain its high place in the rankings.

The latest tenth-generation iPad utilises the A14 Bionic chip, which remains one of the most powerful processors on the market today. 2023 also marked the first calendar year, since the tablet originally launched in 2010, that Apple has not released a new generation of the iPad.

Coming in second place is the iPhone 14, which received 37,222 searches each month throughout the last quarter of 2023. The iPhone 14 features a 6.1 inch retina display, a dual camera system and operates on the A15 Bionic chip, making it one of the most advanced phones on the market. Despite the iPhone 15 being released this year, and iPhone 14 being more than a year old, it remains incredibly popular based on Google searches.

The Nintendo Switch takes third place on the list, with roughly 35,320 searches each month on average between October and December 2023. Last year saw the release of some of the most anticipated franchised Switch releases including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is no surprise that the current iteration of the Switch, which was first released in 2017, remains so popular.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes in fourth place on the list, with 24,453 searches each month on average. The larger version of the iPhone 14 has proven popular with its larger camera capability. Along with the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the first iPhone to feature Apple’s new ‘Dynamic Island’ which replaces the notch design that has been in use since the iPhone X.

Commenting on the findings, Nico Arnold, a spokesperson for GamingGadgets said:

“This data offers a fascinating insight into which tech items people were most looking forward to receiving in 2023. The study considered searches from October to December, encompassing searches for sales during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and consequently revealing which gadgets the UK was most interested in at this time of the year.”
