Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 IT Analytics Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. IT Analytics is the monitoring and management of information surrounding the operations of the information technology (IT) function.
The IT function continually generates a substantial amount of operations data from multiple systems including physical data centers, hardware systems, activity within the IT support team, or application activity. The first edition IT Analytics Market Study examines usage, trends, and the importance of four main areas of IT analytics, including Operations Management, Resource Management, Resource Planning, and Systems Development.

“The success of IT function remains an important topic for organizations seeking to better leverage both information resources and scarce human experts to drive improved group-based decision making,” said Chris von Simson, research director at Dresner Advisory Services.
According to the report, 93% of respondents score IT Analytics as “critical”, “very important”, or “important”. The importance is even greater in large organizations and in the Asia -Pacific region. Across industries, there is similar consensus, with the exception of Retail. 38% of organizations report using a third-party application designed specifically for IT applications.
