AMII Announces AI Week In May To Celebrate AI ML Success In STEM

In May 2022, researchers and applied AI professionals are invited to visit Edmonton. The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) has announced the first $100,000 in travel bursaries for rising researchers and applied artificial intelligence (AI) experts around the world in advance of AI Week, which will take place May 24 – 27, 2022. Up to 500 visitors will be able to attend AI Week in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, thanks to the Global Talent Bursary program.

Global Talent Bursary grantees get special access to AI Week activities like an Academic Symposium with content from Amii’s world-class academics, a VIP Career Mixer, and more. In addition, Amii is proud to offer Global Talent Bursaries to people from underrepresented groups in STEM disciplines, recent immigrants to Canada, and people from rural regions. Self-identification is used to fill out the applications.

Richard Sutton, Chief Scientific Advisor, Fellow, and Canada CIFAR AI Chair at Amii, will deliver a special AI Week lecture to recipients. Dr. Sutton is a Distinguished Research Scientist at DeepMind and one of the world’s finest thinkers about AI, the mind, and what it means to be intelligent. He is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of reinforcement learning.

The inaugural Amii AI Week is a four-day celebration of Alberta’s 20-year heritage of AI and machine learning success. The event will take place in Edmonton from May 24-27, 2022, and will include in-person, hybrid, and digital-first offerings. The event celebrates Amii’s 5th anniversary as well as the 20th anniversary of the Amii research center’s foundation at the University of Alberta, with programs for all audiences.

A range of events and programming centered on AI and machine learning will be part of the celebration.
