Food Allergy Institute’s Inderpal Randhawa, MD Discusses the Relationship Between AI and Medicine in In-Depth Video Interview

Food Allergy Institute (FAI) founder Inderpal Randhawa, MD, was interviewed by an investigative reporter for an in-depth discussion on the current state of artificial intelligence (A.I.) and how he and his colleagues are harnessing A.I. to treat patients with severe food allergies.

“Food Anaphylaxis Diagnostic Marker Compilation in Machine Learning Design and Validation”

The interview, conducted by investigative journalist Subha Chudgar, covers misconceptions about A.I. and how it can be used for innovative, quality-of-life-improving and even life-saving treatments.

The discussion explores the applied math and A.I. technology optimized by Dr. Randhawa and his colleagues at FAI for over a decade. Machine learning enables FAI to draw upon trillions of data points collected to formulate highly specific and tailored treatment plans that safely tackle each patient’s unique food allergies with an individualized treatment plan.

“We are the first clinicians in any area of medicine to truly engage with A.I. in our work, and it has opened the door to a consistently effective opportunity to get severe food allergy patients into remission stage, meaning they can now eat whatever they want, whenever they want.” said Dr. Randhawa. “The treatment technique used, the Tolerance Induction Program (TIP), is a clinical therapeutics model steeped in data science and innovations in A.I. With over 8,000 patients now in remission from food anaphylaxis as a result, we can confidently state that A.I. is at the core of successful, unique patient treatment experiences.”

In the interview, Dr. Randhawa also references a peer-reviewed paper, titled “Food Anaphylaxis Diagnostic Marker Compilation in Machine Learning Design and Validation,” recently published in the clinical journal PLOS ONE. This paper describes in detail how A.I. is used to identify and treat food anaphylaxis, further validating his groundbreaking food allergy treatment work.

With a success rate of over 99%, TIP has proven to be a safe and effective solution for young patients who have struggled with severe food allergies.

“Patients enter the process with anaphylaxis,” said Dr. Randhawa. “And thanks to the A.I.-powered TIP methodology, they leave the program with what we call ‘food freedom’ – free of their previously deadly food allergies – all due to constantly evolving machine learning. It is rewarding to be able to pioneer a frontier of medicine where applied math meets healthcare, and the tremendous quality of life improvements that our patients and their families are experiencing as a result.”
