Lark Health Names Sharon Rapoport Vice President of Data Science
TripAdvisor, Plaid scientist to Drive A.I, Machine Learning Advances
The addition comes at a time when Lark is growing rapidly. Since becoming one of the fastest growing CDC-Recognized Diabetes Prevention Program providers in the country after launching in 2017, three out of the top five national payors and dozens of self-insured employers have chosen Lark’s A.I. chronic care platform based on its proven, scalable outcomes and member engagement for managing multiple disease states.
Sharon will be responsible for overseeing Lark’s Data Science team and expanding the broad platform’s A.I learning to impact even greater positive change in members, while supporting the constant improvement of the company’s diabetes, hypertension, and prediabetes products and services. She will report directly to Chief Technology Officer Jeff Zira.
“Sharon has headed Data Science teams at immense scale across industries like travel and financial services, and her leadership will help us scale from currently serving 1.5 million members to serving tens of millions of patients. We have an opportunity to provide infinitely scalable chronic condition management and prevention services by combining cutting edge A.I and behavior change technology and easy-to-use connected health monitors,” said Lark Chief Executive Officer Julia Hu. “She’s a perfect fit to join our management team.”
Dr. Rapoport joins Lark from TripAdvisor, where her leadership on the Data Science team played a key role in driving their intelligent recommendations, pricing, and marketing. Prior to TripAdvisor, Sharon was employee #5 and the first data scientist at Plaid (Google Ventures and NEA-backed), where she used massive amounts of financial data to make predictions and build products and where she was integral to the launch of their income verification product. Dr. Rapoport has her BSc in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her Ph.D in Astrophysics from the Australian National University, where she worked under the supervision of a Nobel Prize winner in physics. Sharon received her pilot training in the Israeli Air Force, where she was also a member of an elite signal intelligence unit.
“Chronic conditions are the biggest challenge that A.I has come up against. Lark’s A.I. coaches have been trained on over 1.9 million members, and I’m excited to bring my experience from TripAdvisor and Plaid with some of the largest data sets in the world to bear on this important problem. Lark’s mission to provide everyone with a chronic condition with care and compassion means that immediate, compassionate, and impactful feedback on members’ blood glucose and blood pressure measurements must be both compassionate and adaptive. I’m thrilled to be part of this journey,” Dr. Rapoport said.
