Guardicore Simplifies Micro-Segmentation to Speed Deployment in Hybrid Data Center Environments

Latest Innovations Provide the Broadest Coverage and More Intuitive Dependency Mapping and Policy Expression to Secure Critical Applications and Infrastructure

Guardicore, a leader in internal data center and cloud security, revealed significant advances in micro-segmentation to its Guardicore Centra security platform, delivering a faster and simpler way for IT security teams to visualize applications and apply security policies in hybrid data center and cloud environments. Specifically, enhancements provide the broadest coverage across hybrid data center and cloud infrastructure and assets, from legacy systems like Windows 2000 and HP-UX to modern application delivery methods like containers, and the most advanced and flexible way to visualize and map application dependencies quickly, automatically and at scale.

“The complexities of securing the modern data center at scale demand effective best practices for micro-segmentation of applications and assets in order to achieve the most granular levels of visibility and control across heterogeneous environments,” said Pavel Gurvich, Co-founder and CEO, Guardicore. “Engaging closely with our customers we found that they inherently have the best understanding of their environment, but needed a more simple way to define, organize and navigate their security. By providing them with unprecedented, intuitive clarity, Guardicore Centra enables both security teams and DevOps to visualize, create and apply policies that best fit their infrastructure, people and processes to secure their critical applications in any environment.”

Greater Visualization, Powerful Policy Creation

The movement of critical workloads into virtualized, hybrid cloud environments, industry compliance requirements and the onslaught of continued data center breaches demand what micro-segmentation delivers–visibility, security controls, and protection capabilities–to secure complex enterprise computing environments, which represent today’s largest attack surface.

Guardicore has introduced a flexible, hierarchical structure for visualizing these environments, called Nested Groups, to label and group IT assets by corresponding environment, application and role. This helps IT teams to better understand application dependencies and how their microservices are connected. Using this intelligence they can quickly create segmentation and micro-segmentation security policies. This hierarchical structure enables easy navigation from a high-level map of the entire data center to a drill-down of underlying application components, including individual processes and meta-data within a few clicks in a single user interface. Guardicore Centra allows customers to define different grouping schemes of assets using any logical description that IT desires, set different filters making it faster and more convenient to browse, drill down and build security policies for the entire environment or a single application.

To provide even greater context for mapping dependencies and labeling assets in cloud environments, Guardicore has added integration with Azure orchestration to incorporate Azure VM metadata. Orchestration data complements information provided by Guardicore agents and other collection methods. Guardicore supports multiple orchestration platforms, including AWS, vSphere, OpenShift and different Kubernetes flavors, as well as Azure and user-defined.

Expanded Micro-Segmentation of  Legacy Systems

Legacy systems are still at the heart of many critical business application today. Recent market research estimates that approximately 50 percent of large businesses are running servers with outdated or end-of-life operating systems. Guardicore has expanded its coverage of legacy systems adding support for HP-UX 11.31 + 11.23, Windows 2000/2003/2008, Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 4 + 5  and Solaris SPARC 10 + 11. Guardicore now supports the largest number of  server operating systems for 32bit and 64bit, providing the broadest OS support of any micro-segmentation vendor using a single, integrated management console.

Recent Recognition

Already in 2019, Guardicore Centra has been recognized for its innovative approach to micro-segmentation, being awarded a five-star rating for the third year in a row by SC Magazine. Guardicore Centra earned a perfect overall score of five out of five stars and received high praise from SC Labs where reviewers once again noted that the Centra Security Platform had no weaknesses, citing “competitive advantages in visibility, micro-segmentation, breach detection and response.”
