IOST-Incubated Emogi Network Launches Trusted Social Engagement-Based Staking & Micropayments Ecosystem
Entire Emogi Ecosystem Will Be Onboarded to IOST by End of 2019, Bringing Tens of Millions of Active Users to the Blockchain
Emogi Network, the blockchain-based product development studio incubated by IOST, has officially announced the launch of its two inaugural DApps, Berminal and Bermi, offering millions of users and audiences wider access to news, information, and a balanced exchange of ideas. Berminal and Bermi are powered by Emogi, a widely-distributed digital currency woven through the DApps, whereby users may stake their tokens and provide payment to content creators simply through social engagement.
Incubated by IOST-affiliated BlueHill in July 2018, the Emogi Network combines the power of blockchain with the traditional web and is designed as an open and permissionless system with Proof-of-Stake validation and rewards. The Emogi Network eliminates the modern economy’s reliance on centralized, and often agenda-driven, intermediaries for news generation, curation and distribution. Through its first two DApps, Berminal and Bermi, Emogi Network has over 7 million users who have adopted the ecosystem and are actively participating on the blockchain. By the end of 2019, the Emogi network will be onboarded onto the IOST blockchain, broadening users’ ability to be a part of a wider community and marketplace.

Ray Xiao, Co-founder at IOST and Emogi Network, said: “We are very proud of the strides made by the Emogi Network team in the past year. Emogi was founded and built with decentralization and distribution as its primary focuses. By linking social engagements on Bermi to micropayments using Emogi, we have seen enormous traction, especially within the Latin American region in countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Peru. Just with Bermi alone, we have over 6 million users who are demonstrating a real use case. Emogi has become a true, viable option to hold and transfer value over the countries’ native fiat currencies.”
The Berminal DApp is a real-time news terminal with a full-time staff of professional crypto reporters creating and curating content around the clock, and has more than one million active users in the space. Currently, Berminal already has data partnerships with platforms such as CoinCheckup, AirdropAlert, ICOAlerts, and news syndication partnership with 15 of the largest news publishers in the cryptocurrency industry.
The second DApp on Emogi Network, Bermi, is a community of video creators sharing the best in short video content and is available on the Apple App Store and Android Play Store. Users earn rewards as they create and share engaging videos. The app learns user preferences and predicts content users will enjoy, making it fast and easy to find discover content. Since January 2019, Bermi users upload over one million new videos onto the platform each month, accumulating over 250 million views.
Over 40 percent of Bermi users are based in Colombia and Mexico. Bermi was ranked top-ten in overall downloads in the Colombia Google Play Store, surpassing both Snapchat and TikTok. Bermi was also a top-ten most downloaded app in Colombia, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic. In terms of demographics, over 72 percent of Bermi users are between the ages of 18 and 34, and skews heavily male (67 percent). It’s success in gaining a significant audience in a short amount of time has attracted the attention of partners and merchants. Bermi is an official Google AdMob publisher, is a PayPal Merchant Partner, and has collaborated with Cobo Wallet as the official wallet partner of the Bermi community.
“As a blockchain network, IOST is committed to powering the next generation of internet services, and Bermi and Emogi coin are prime examples of what we’re trying to accomplish,” said Jimmy Zhong, CEO at IOST. “IOST is providing strategic and financial backing to projects like Emogi Network so that consumers may experience the true value of blockchain. Through IOST’s powerful and scalable Proof-of-Believability consensus algorithm, the foundation’s institutional backing, and large network of partners, IOST is preparing the most meaningful decentralized applications for mass adoption. We look forward to incorporating Emogi Network onto IOST soon and to provide our community with an amazing experience where they have full control over the content they consume.”
Since its mainnet launch on 25 February, IOST has fast established itself as the most scalable blockchain network available, surpassing EOS, Tron, and Ethereum in its rate of growth. It recently announced partnerships with EHang and the Civil Aviation Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to deliver secure and reliable flight management data; with Amazon Web Services to launch blockchain solutions in as quickly as five minutes in just one click; and with the Singapore government through Enterprise Singapore to support the growth of the blockchain ecosystem and to educate multinational corporations and SMEs to unlock the value of blockchain. IOST supports 13 DApps on its network, including a suite of games, wallets and stablecoins. Its ecosystem includes over 250 developers and partners, including Huobi, DDEX, iBank Digital Asset, and CoinGecko. The IOST token is available for trading on 26 exchanges.
