IOTLABS’ Internet of Things (IoT) application allows citizens to monitor water levels and air quality in real time
Semtech Corporation, a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, announced that IOTLABS, a company dedicated to providing Internet of Things-as-a-service including installation, software, hardware, and maintenance, has incorporated Semtech’s LoRa® devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa Technology) into its island-wide LoRaWAN-based network on Mallorca.
“LoRa Technology provides the backbone for an IoT platform and opportunities to create endless possible smart applications,” said Marta Cierra, Co-founder of IOTLABS. “The citizens of Mallorca will utilize the network based on the LoRaWAN™ protocol for a number of smarter applications such as real time water level and air quality monitoring. In the near future, we expect to add smart parking, traffic, and pollution monitoring solutions using LoRa-based sensors.”

IOTLABS’ LoRa-based solution enables real time connectivity, monitoring, and data analytics. This allows the municipality to better provide more complex smart solutions like smart metering for utilities, and precision agriculture solutions for the island’s olive industry. LoRa-based solutions can easily be implemented into preexisting networks with minimal deployment cost, and solutions are scalable by number of nodes and gateways; this allows networks to grow from town, to countryside, and eventually entire islands.
